What's some good music for my workout mix?

Asked by Emily (51points) November 11th, 2007

Could be hip-hop, rock, whatever. Just a good beat for running and/or working out at the gym.

I’m really grooving to Radiohead’s “Bodysnatchers” right now – a great song from their new album, In Rainbows (and you can pay them whatever you want for it).

I really like Psapp for active-music – it’s fun, warm electronic music for people that don’t always like electronic music (like me). The song “Hi” is my favorite.

I also like to run to Andrew Bird’s “Imitosis” and “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard” by Paul Simon.

My warmup song when running Speedbumps – Sounds from the Ground. It’s electronica no lyrics. 6:35

My finale is always Fatboy Slim – Because We Can. :)

Try electronic / trance, my fav genres for running and lifting. Some great names to look for are Paul Oakenfold, Teisto, ATB, BT, Fat Boy Slim, Mario Piu, Mauro Picotto, contact for more. Enjoy!

You might also want to check out LCD Soundsystem’s “45:33” – a continuous mix he did for Nike with a nice mix of tempos and rhythms that clocks in at, you guessed it: 45:33.
Available for download or on CD with a few extra tracks. Have fun!

The song “Ride for Glory” by DragonLand is one of my personal favorites. It’s like a speed/power metal song.

When you get tired of hip hop or rock here’s a few more funky, alternative peices I use when working with my dancers/actors that have a “drive” to it:

Skater (Leahy)—Celtic fiddling!
Bacholerette (Bjork)
Alvin Ailey’s Revelations (e.g., Didn’t my Lord Deliver Daniel, Wade in the Water)
Noir OST (track 4, Cante per Me, track 17 Salvos Nos) – Japanese anime
Lain’s Theme – Japanese anime
