Any one know why my "Top Sites" on Safari 4 (beta) won't load?

Asked by tirithalui (408points) March 29th, 2009

When I open Top Sites the thumbnails don’t load up, they just stay as the blank rectangles. If I open one of them and then go back to Top Sites the preview will be there, but the rest remain blank. I’m pretty sure the feature that shows if a site has been updated since my last visit doesn’t work either. The previews in my History coverflow do not load as well…

I’ve trawled the net looking for answers but I don’t know how to fix it. I’m using a new unibody MacBook with loads of RAM etc, which definatly fit into Safari’s system requirements, but it still doesn’t work.

Can any benevolent flutherite help me?

Just use it for a little longer. Top Sites takes a while to figure out what sites you go to the most, and it doesn’t just automatically catalog/create thumbnails. Just use it a bit more and this should just work its way out.

@TaoSan yeah they’re https.

@dverhey I’ve been using it for a while now, but I’ll carry on an see what happens. So are you saying when you open Safari and go to Top Sites the pictures don’t load up automatically for you either?

@tirithalui

4 Beta doesn’t give you a thumb of https pages, so as to not say leave your online banking page or other sensitive stuff for everyone to see. It’s a security thingy

Yup. What TaoSan said. Most of my pages thumbnail, but all my https don’t. It’s better that way.
