one day, a momma jelly and a daddy jelly got together. when mommies and daddies lurve each other very much, they give each other a special hug, known as a “web 2.0 hug”. after a few months, a new little jellysite is born.

There was something going on in early Dec. 2006, when I was invited to try Fluther out. Maybe it wasn’t official then. (Beta?)

@gailcalled Yeah, my profile says I’ve been a member since November ‘06, but I think it was still in beta then – I remember the email saying something like “invite your friends, but not too many of them!” I’m not sure when it officially became public…

I can’t believe it’s been that long! On the other hand, I can’t remember what life was like before fluther either… ;)

The official start up date as we all know was of course Dec. 2006, but the ancient sources say that the golden plates on which the Fluther doctrine was imparted to the first sea creatures were found in the cave of Neptune. After the sinking of Atlantis (in Greek, Ἀτλαντίς, “daughter of Atlas”) and the great diaspora of Atlantians the doctrine was thought to have been lost forever. Plato, after describing the origin of the world and mankind in Timaeus and the allegorical perfect society of ancient Athens and its successful defense against an antagonistic Atlantis in Critias, would have made the strategy of the Greek civilization during their conflict with the Persians a subject of discussion in the Hermocrates yet failed to mention the Golden Plates of Fluther. For this reason there was much contentious debate but the encrypted code and accompanying algorithms were finally brought to the surface by Jacques Cousteau in the early 1970’s along with the lurvus ultimata. The plates were surrounded by legion of Man O’ War.
The Francophone crew of the Calypso held claim to the plates for almost three decades until finally being smuggled to the USA in the early 2000’s. The rest is history.

Perhaps not the official start up date, but October 16th, 2006 is when it all began.

@AstroChuck Oh, Yeah, I discovered that one the other day, and forgot it.
