Illustrator finding an agent?

Asked by ems (185points) May 2nd, 2009

I have a design background but I am interested getting work as a freelance illustrator.

It has been suggested I find an agent. Where is a good place to start looking? What qualities should I look for?

First, you should look through the portfolios of the illustrators these reps work with to see if your style is a match.

Second, be prepared for a whole lot of silence in response.

Third, be prepared that you may not find a rep – publishing is hurting big time. Many illustrators are finding ways to self-publish or do their own thing while pursuing commissions.

Good luck!
