What age is appropriate for a Game Boy?

My nearly 9 year old has one & as long as the games are age-appropriate, I think it would be appropriate for 7 or 8??

I know five year old that are more proficient than I with a gameboy in hand, but I don't know that I would suggest getting such a young child involved in the video game world, as the child I'm thinking spends an unhealthy amount of time indoors. I'd suggest no earlier than 9.
