Am I supposed to be on my period?

Asked by punkrockworld (960points) May 14th, 2009

Hey! I just started this birth control pill( ive never used the pill before) and I’m half way on the strip but I got my period while I’m still taking the white pills. Is that normal? Am i not supposed to get my period when i’m on the iron pills? I’m confused lol.

It’s going to take your system a while to adapt to them. It’ll take a couple cycles to get regular. You’re fine.

Read the information that came with the pills carefully. If you still have questions, talk to the doctor who wrote the prescription. Most likely your body is still adjusting to the change in hormone levels.

iron pills?

Your body might still be adjusting. If you’re on the placebo pills, then you should definitely be getting your period.

@casheroo Don’t remember which one, but my obgyn told me last week about a new birth control for which some of the placebo (sugar) pills are replaced with iron pills. It serves some purpose, didn’t pay much attention to him though b/c I didn’t want them.

Did you start taking the pills at the oppropriate time of the month. I am not a woman, but I have been around woman that do take the pill and they typically say you should start the pill in-sink with your cycle.

I still dont understand why women bleed for 5 days and not die…

@DragonFace Me either, and it’s been happening to me for years. I just had to break the news to my daughter that this will also happen to her at some point in the future, and she was so pissed off. There are times you feel like you might die. But I did read somewhere that the amount of blood is actually something like 3 tablespoons. Not a whole lot at all.
