Firefox Error: "Though the site seems valid..." How does Firefox know the site is valid?

Asked by julia999 (343points) July 31st, 2009

Hi I noticed that sometimes when I go to my localhost before turning activating the server, I get the following message:
Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

I’m curious how Firefox determines whether the site is valid or not.

It could (and probably is) be referencing it off the DNS.

Maybe firefox pings the server to see its there but your current proxy settings in firefox don’t let it connect to that server. Try opening up console and type “ping thesiteyouaretryingtoconnectto.com” where that long url is the site you are trying to connect to. If you get a response then your internet can connect fine, its strictly firefox having trouble.
