I just got braces, and now my gum is peeling off... O.O?

Asked by freestyletrue (126points) August 13th, 2009

Well, I got braces yesterday, and I remember when the woman put the blue light over the glue to let the brackets harden, it started to really burn the gum above my fake tooth, and today, I looked in the mirror and the where the blue light had burned me my gum was peeling; Is this something to worry about?

Did it blister and the top layer of skin is coming off (like when you burn the top of your mouth and it pops and there’s some loose skin) or does it seem more serious?

Well, I don’t really remember, I didn’t feel anything blister or anything. I just happened to see that the gum around that tooth was really white and dead looking, and I touched it and it just pulled off… o.o Underneath the dead white skin is red. But I don’t know!

Your orthodontist should be able to answer your questions and respond to your concerns.

Call your orthodontist.

You probably got a burn and blistered, but I’d call the orthodontist to make sure its normal-ish.
