What's a good website to host a music page?

Asked by n8unit (55points) August 17th, 2009

I’m an amateur musician recording some songs I’ve written at home. What’s a good free website to host some of my songs in mp3 format so that I can share them with friends? I tried a MySpace artist page but I didn’t find it easy to customize.

I’ve used last.fm for years as a music listener. I’m not a music maker, but I know you can start up your own page and upload your own music (for free as far as I know), you may want to give it a try.
here is where you’d start up on there as an artist.

Tumblr might work for you. You can upload a song per day. So it might take a few weeks to get them all up. But you can customize the shit out of it.

I agree with last.fm, also check out thesixtyone.com

Try PureVolume or Virb – they are both kind of like myspace with a neater design.

As @johnpowell points out, Tumblr would work for you if you want to go all out for customization.

@johnpowell : actually you can post more then one song per day if you post externally hosted songs or set your tumblr up as a group

Seconded PureVolume. Don’t do MySpace. Bands with only myspaces lose a lot of credibility in my eyes.

If you want to start a blog, go with Wordpress.com. I like my Tumblr, but the social features are a little unnecessary. But that’s just me.
