What is the best way to set up wireless for my gaming pc?

Asked by grntwlkr (179points) November 4th, 2009

I am thinking about purchasing this pc: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113101&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-Desktop+PCGateway_-83113101

I have cable internet through cox. I have a wireless router downstairs, but my pc will be going upstairs. there are no cable jacks where the pc will go so I think it will have to connect wireless. should I buy a usb wireless adapter? What is a good one to buy? Are there anyother ways to connect? Will this be ok for gaming situations?

also does this computer seem good?

Thanks.

There are many people who dislike wireless for PC gaming, but I really don’t see the problem with it, unless your wireless signal is weak.

Go for it.

Doesn’t it have wifi?

If your signal is okay you’re fine. Watch out though, wireless signals can be spotty, and if you’re playing in a match a ping spike makes a huge difference. Some people don’t buy wireless mice because the connection is less reliable and slower. Also they cut out at the worst time.

You could get a wireless USB stick. Yup, if the signal is good. Though I wouldn’t do it if I was playing a lot of MMOFPS.

Wow, I’m really jealous of those specs compared to my machine. I should get one of those.

Gaming laptop is an oxymoron as far as I’m concerned.
