What do /did you think of 2012 (the movie)

Asked by tyrantxseries (4722points) November 14th, 2009

I know the 2012 subject is getting tiresome but please bear with me on this

please no spoilers in your posts

The only reason I’m asking this is because I’ve been waiting to see this movie since the first announced they were making it (before I knew what it was based on)—
I love “end of the world movies” I think I’ve seen all of them

I just saw 2012 the movie and it was better than expected.
I found the graphics very well done, story line was a little shaky in some parts, some predicable parts, and some well (and some not so well) placed humor.

No, this is not the “best” end of the world movie I’ve seen and No not the worst either

Have you seen it? what do you think of it?
If you haven’t seen it, do you plan to?
and even if you are sick to death of the whole 2012 thing I still recommend seeing it as “just” another end movie

I have already acquired it. But I haven’t watched it yet. Maybe later this afternoon.

sick of the whole 2012 thing myself

@RedPowerLady how can you be sick of something that just came out in theaters?

I liked it, I would give it 3.5 stars out of 5. It was a little too long, after a while running and running from the world caving in got redundant, but I do think the effects were done well. It was a little trite, but I liked that there was some humour, and that the Chinese wind up building the ships. I think they should have dwelled on the Mayans a little more. Overall still a thumbs up for me.

I want to go to @johnpowell‘s to watch it. Can Jon and I come over JP? We’ll bring the beer.

@tyrantseries He means the whole affair with people thinking the world will end in 2012 because thats when the Mayan calendar ends. Personally I dislike people thinking this as well and the approach the movie has towards it, but I want to see the effects and you can never see the world end enough times (unless if one of them is real :P).

I should be seeing it wednesday so I can give a review then :).

Can there really be any spoilers with this movie? It’s like saying “I wonder how The Titanic ended”. ;)

I went with my friend who was raised Jehovah and she left saying, “maybe my religion is right? Maybe the world will end?”

Truthfully, I’ve never seen an end-of-the-world movie before (I don’t really count movies like I Am Legend, where it continues in SOME form), so this shocked and horrified me. I walked out of the theater smiling, but I sat there through the entire thing, mouth open, and wondering if I shouldn’t keep a single bullet laying around for myself. Just in case.

With my luck, however, I’d “jump the gun” with a tiny earthquake. :D

The crappy thing is if the world did end it wouldn’t be as dramatic as depicted in these movies. Unless if there were zombies. Oh how I wish there will be zombies.

RandomMrdan's avatar

I so wish the world will come to an end with zombies….maybe that’s what will happen come 2012!

JLeslie's avatar

I don’t like zombie movies. I don’t like “scary movies.”

Psychedelic_Zebra's avatar

@JLeslie not even if all the zombies are dead celebrities? Can you imagine Tom Cruise and George Clooney as zombies? Paris Hilton would look exactly the same as a zombie as she does alive, I think.

@tyrantxseries I’m tired of hearing about 2012 being the end of the world when it is just a huge misinterpretation of another culture. In fact I’m tired of hearing about the end of the world period right now. @Ame_Evil said it.

I still am not sure where the myth came from that when 2012 hits it’s the end of the world, a calendar ends and now all of the sudden the world does to? ermm i beg to differ…..

42 minutes in and it is so hard to keep watching. 104 minutes to go.

At least I don’t feel the need to pause the movie if I need to piss on the lawn.

@tyrantxseries so what do you think is the best end of the world movie? I haven’t seen 2012 yet-

jrpowell's avatar

WTF.. Why are there always black presidents in end of the world movies?

tyrantxseries's avatar

@trailsillustrated Sorry I can’t pick one…here are some of my favorites:
The Knowing
Resident Evil
Dawn Of The Dead
Deep Impact
Sunshine
Armageddon
The Stand
The Day After Tomorrow
The core

jonsblond's avatar

@tyrantxseries The Day After Tomorrow. Being chased by the freezing was priceless! One of my favorite chase scenes of all time. lol

JLeslie's avatar

@jonsblond If you like Day After Tomorrow you will love 2012.

Freedom_Issues's avatar

I liked it. I thought it had great special effects, and was entertaining to watch. Many people didn’t like it. I love John Cusack so maybe that had something to do with it. :)

I thought it was good. The special effects were outstanding, not fake at all. The Premise of the movie I feel was incorrect. I do not believe “it” will happen as the movie depicts. Happy Dec 21, 2012!
(just wait until 2011; it is gonna be a trip!)
