We have three cats in our house. From 2005–2007 we had four cats. It was enough. Keep in mind these are indoor/outdoor cats. They went outside whenever they wanted to, so it’s not like they were always in the house all the time.

anon's avatar

Just me, and certainly no more.

dani6119's avatar

We have no animals in the house. My husband doesn’t want any. I do have a stray dog outside I’ve been feeding. :)

Axemusica's avatar

Does this include spiders? if not zero.

~Edit~ wait if you include me that’s 1

If I had more money and a bigger house? Yes.

ccrow's avatar

Current tally: 1 Amazon parrot, 4 dogs (soon to be 5). Also occasional grandkids.

reacting_acid's avatar

2 cats and one fat little dog

AuntieEm's avatar

I have usually have just three in the house, a cat and two dogs. But the occasional sneaky chicken will get in for a minute now and then :)

jamielynn2328's avatar

It’s a zoo I tell ya. A fat white cat named Basil. A little grey kitty named Mako. Two hamsters, Petunia and Pepper. 4 baby hamsters – Not yet named. 3 fish and two hermit crabs. Amazingly my 6 and 8 year old take care of the animals. They scoop poop and feed and water.

I am thinking about getting a dog. My whole family wants a dog. But I just want to make sure that we can handle the responsibility!

75movies's avatar

Just a 14 year old cat named Dinah. She’s the apis mellifera’s patellas.

Slick's avatar

None, my cat and dog are outside animals.

75movies's avatar

@AuntieEm Damn sneaky chickens!

AnnieB's avatar

1 dog and 2 teenagers.

rangerr's avatar

@jamielynn2328 Aw, hell. I forgot the fish. I don’t even want to count them.

ccrow's avatar

@rangerr just say “an indeterminate number of fish” lol!

PandoraBoxx's avatar

Four cats, one small dog. Just for the record, the saturation point for cats is five. Five cats is one cat too many. Mayhem ensues. Four cats means little kitty cabin fever in the winter, and results in someone getting booted outdoors for a bit.

Shatzee's avatar

7 in the house and one outside

Beta_Orionis's avatar

While I lived with my family in California, 6: 4 Dogs, (short, small, medium and large,) one cat, and an iguana. Too many four legged creatures in my opinion.

In my home, 2: my male cats, Boots and Dusty. (Currently 3 because I’m catsitting a most beautiful tiny female cat named Joplin for a friend.)

Truth be told, this third cat is filling my head with cat-lady daydreams. Although I’d not be the type to end up with a growing poulation, horrible living conditions and air quality, numerous dead cats, etc.

Buttonstc's avatar

One cat, Smoochie
One dog, Snuggles

If I lived in a larger place which were all my own, I would definitely like to have a couple more cats.

Cotton101's avatar

Sadly, none now! My Spunky passed away August 22, 2009. She was a real lady. Best dog a man could ever have in this lifetime and was a stray. Miss her SO MUCH. She always did the right thing! Never one minute of trouble in our 11 years together.

Cotton101's avatar

BTW, that is her pic in my avatar! She was SO pretty! Her eyes would melt you to nothing!

rooeytoo's avatar

3 dogs live in this house and graciously allow my husband and I to visit.

We have a house in another state and a cat and chicken reside there because they are not allowed where we currently live. And an elderly gentleman who pays very little rent but takes care of the creatures.

The cat is indoor/outdoor and the chicken is meant to be outdoor but she has observed the cat going in and out his door and has now learned to use it as well. As @AuntieEm says, they are sneaky and I think secretly long to be house chickens. If I could just get her housebroken!

Three indoor cats, one destructive dog, and a Meyer’s Parrot in a pear tree.

delirium's avatar

If I could, I’d have 20 individual snakes, ideally all of different species. I’d just love that. Other members of the household, however, are vehemently opposed to this idea.

rooeytoo's avatar

@delirium – we just had an uninvited snake removed from the bookshelf in our computer room. It was beautiful but I really did not want to have it for a room mate!

delirium's avatar

But they’re so nice! And they get rid of your mice!

ratboy's avatar

None :) they are constantly in and out… 6 of them… cats :)

We have one rabbit, very spoiled. He has a nice hutch which is supposed to be for keeping a rabbit outside but..he’s spoiled so stays in the house. He runs around outside the hutch each day, which is OK with me since he’s potty trained. He also has an outdoor playpen, and takes us for walks on his leash.

We have a fish, too, and the damn thing won’t die. My mother in law keeps giving us fish, which live way too long, and when they die she replaces them. I refuse to clean the tank, so she does that when she comes over. She knows I don’t like the fish, but buys them for the kids who ignore them.

I’d love to have a big dog, like a doberman, but my husband isn’t in love with the idea. He says I can get a doberman when he can get an apartment. Then, he changed his mind and said I can get a doberman if I agree to name it Cock. Even the kids would have to call it Cock. I’m trying to decide if that’s something I can live with. Anyway, I’d rather not have a dog for a few more years. I think when the kids are older I’ll have more time and energy to devote to a dog, while right now I’m kind of run ragged. Besides, this gives me time to try to wear down my husband’s defenses.

casheroo's avatar

Currently, we have two cats, one dog, and three fish.

The dog is not ours. We will get a dog when our children are old enough to help (I’m thinking when our oldest is 6 or 7). We have more cats, but cats and little children don’t really mix (in my opinion) so we would not get a new cat and subject it to a toddler. We had our cats prior to having children, they knew what was happening when I was pregnant lol

arnbev959's avatar

I have a dog and a rabbit. The rabbit, who is on my lap right now, has a habit of jumping on the keyboard while I’m typing.

tinyfaery's avatar

2 humans
5 cats
1 mouse (1 recently died)

Darwin's avatar

At the moment we have seven indoor cats, and five dogs, one of whom can let himself out but generally can’t let himself back in. We had another dog (my avatar) but sadly she died of lymphoma. We used to have 14 cats but they tend to die off when they hit age 17 or 18 or so.

We have an unnumbered number of mice in the house, yard, and garage. The snakes take care of the mice in the yard, but not in the house or garage. My family won’t let me have snakes in the house.

downtide's avatar

I have one dog. I also used to keep rats, but it’s been a while since I had any. Rats make great pets.

rooeytoo's avatar

@downtide – I always liked rats too. I haven’t had one for years but I had a couple that would stay in my jacket pocket. It was fun.

downtide's avatar

@rooeytoo I had one once who liked to sit on the top of my head all the time. No matter where I put her she would always climb up as high as she could, and then she would be stuck and I had to rescue her.

rooeytoo's avatar

@downtide – that’s even better than the head popping out of a pocket! Do you have a pic of it?

downtide's avatar

@rooeytoo no I don’t have any pics. Actually I don’t have any at all of the rats, after a hard-drive crash last year I lost them all.

rooeytoo's avatar

@downtide – that’s too bad, I would have like to see the rat perched on your head!

delirium's avatar

I keep my snakes in my pockets often. We shouldn’t stand too close together. methinks that could end badly.

rooeytoo's avatar

@delirium hehehhe, swallow, burp, oops!

AstroChuck's avatar

@delirium- It could go like this.

delirium's avatar

HORRIFYING. That was just mean. And he totally shouldn’t be feeding live anyways.

Darwin's avatar

Rats are great pets, except they never even approach living long enough, and I am deathly allergic to them. :-(

However, mice are even harder on me, plus they bite. I hate mice and only fed the snakes at work with Mice-icles. That way no one could get hurt and I could freak out the rest of the staff by claiming that I warmed them up in the lunchroom microwave.

delirium's avatar

ilu Darwin. Hahahaha. That’s an excellent idea!

AstroChuck's avatar

@Darwin- Plus mice are incredibly dirty. Rats, on the other hand, are pretty clean little creatures. Smart too. That Ben was one intelligent rodent!

AuntieEm's avatar

@75movies – LOL, yes they are sneaky, but I can’t really blame them…they were raised in here from the first day of their lives until they were old enough to go into the coop. So, really, they just think they are coming home :)

Tomfafa's avatar

The only animals I have are mice… these are NYC mice… these mice are so tuff even the cockroaches carry switchblades!

chyna's avatar

@Tomfafa Country mice are so much more laid back.

Tomfafa's avatar

@chyna…. AY YO… my mice will kick your mices’ ass! Nice to meet you chyna.
......
When I was growing up in brooklyn… you came to my house, my mother would give you two sticks… one to hold up the ceiling, the other to fight off the mice! Yeah… we were poor! (RD)

Darwin's avatar

Well, when I was a baby we were so poor that my parents put my crib under the table to keep the plaster that fell from the ceilings from hitting me, and they got a terrier to keep the rats away from me.

rooeytoo's avatar

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh poor @Darwin!

Darwin's avatar

The problem is, my story is true. They moved soon after to a sturdier house.

rooeytoo's avatar

@Darwin – I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be flip, I assumed you were one upping the sad little story.

Darwin's avatar

I was, but it’s still true.

Tomfafa's avatar

Well… we were poor but… the shtick was rodney dangerfield.

Tomfafa's avatar

I heard about a guy who had a boa and a puppy… then the boa ate the puppy… now he only has a boa.
