Are Boom Boxes in automobiles going out of style?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) December 17th, 2009

I use to hear a lot of “booming” sounds coming from automobiles and suvs. have people finally woke up and discovered that their hearing is suffering from these loud noises? maybe, they have discovered that they will be wearing hearing aids, later in their life, because of the boom boxes? in any event, i am glad that at least now i can listen to my cds in my car, without having to compete with the boom boxes. there is something to the saying “silence is golden”.

Lord, I hope so. I am SO tired of this one guy passing my house about 3 every morning, “thumping” so loud it practically peels the paint off my house. Not only that, but some people have no desire to hear MFer this MFer that from a mile away.

Going out of style? I wish! You should be glad you don’t live in my neighborhood.

I don’t hear them as often.

I discovered something in my teenage years about the noises a car makes from the outside and how they differ from the inside. If you turn the bass way up, your car will “boom” on the outside, but you may have the actual volume lower. So, just because you hear that booming noise, it doesn’t mean the people are listening to most of the sound loud, it may just be the bass. I don’t play music that loud in my car, but when you have a Bose system in your car, it can be kind of irresistible sometimes. I never play it loud enough to the point of being uncomfortable like so many of my friends do. One time I almost felt like smashing my friend’s stereo system because he wouldn’t turn it down despite my requests.

I normally do not answer my own questions, but this is an exception. i was at a red light one night in my police car. the suv, in front of me was so loud, i could not hear the police calls on my radio.everything shook inside my police car. i honked the horn and motioned for the driver to turn down the music. this he did…..............until the next red light. he jacked the volume up once again, to the moon. i pulled him over this time and wrote him a citation for a violation of the excessive noise law. i believe in giving a person a chance to do the right thing. this person did not.
