How long should I save my christmas cards?

Asked by Tomfafa (2313points) December 23rd, 2009

I scan the ones that come with a picture… and also how long should I save those ultra fancy wedding invitations?

Christmas cards: Boxing day

As for invitations, they can be thrown straight away, unless you have to bring them with you.

I don’t save Christmas cards at all. I cut the pretty fronts off & send them to a woman in Texas who makes things like place mats, etc. for a nursing home. They’re recycled in a good way.

I don’t save cards or invitations at all. I’d need a filing cabinet to keep them all!

I’m terrible. I usually set them out (put them on display), and after the holidays, I stuff them in a drawer.

I honestly and truly do not believe there is a rule about this.

And I couldn’t find anything in the Legal Code either. Be free.

LOL @gailcalled. Love it.

However, that VISA card? I’d hold onto that one for awhile. (Maybe put it in a box for a couple of months, though.)

But I feel so guilty throwing them away!!!

As long as it takes to get them from the envelope to the can.

I only save the wedding invitations for family members, or those near/dear to me. Once the date is on the calendar, it’s out of here. All the fuss and expense brides put into invitations when really a tasteful panel card with a great font gets the job done.

I pitch mine around new years day if there isn’t a special note in it. If it has an actual picture on it, or a note inside, I put it in my drawer.

I hold on to them until the following year so I know who to send Christmas cards to the next time. I guess I could write down the names, but it is fun to pull them out and look at them one last time before I throw them away.

I use christmas cards for next year’s gift tags. If they can’t easily be made into a tag I throw them away when the rest of the christmas decorations come down on Jan 6th.

Until you have verified that you have the correct addresses for everyone you care about. That’s how I update my address book every winter. Sometimes people forget to tell you they’ve moved.
