there really needs to be a bad question button that if enough people click the person gets a lower score or the question gets taken down

hahaha i completely agree.

You guys are flat out rude, you know that?

Phil's avatar

flat. out. rude.

haha phil. oh man…

Ok seriously noobs, you need to learn to be patient and respect other users. Yes people will ask silly question—even i did so when I initially started on fluther and I am sure you guys have done so at some point of your lives (if not on fluther) . Fluther is a community where the users are respectful to one another and more importantly where the users are actually helpful. If you don’t want to do so, go join Yahoo Answers though impatient people will find themselves most comfortable at digg. Instead of complaining, try to answer the question and add at the end of your answer where to get the answer next time. By doing so, you are teaching someone the skill to find answers (for most cases its google). And some of the most interesting questions on fluther, happen to be what you guys would label as “silly questions” like the cake question or the mainstream media question.

Ok this is rhetorical question. But to answer the actual question, my theory is that the egg came first. Since birds evolved from dinosaurs, my guess is birds were a cross between two different animals and so their mating might have resulted in the egg. The egg became a bird and the bird created more eggs. Ok this answer is not really backed by any scientific data and chances of my theory bein wrong are 70–30.

good point. i’ll do that more from now on.

Ollgby's avatar

I’m just wondering you know maybe somebody with a bit of brains might be able to conjour up a theory on evolution or something but if you feel that being rude when I want to learn something is the way to go then good luck(like mirza)
mirza great answer btw but like as silly as the question may be its still controversial and therfore debateable. On that basis alone it can’t be a “noob” question because its one where we truely all learn something.

Phil's avatar

in my defense i don’t think i’ve ever posted a “silly” question and i wouldn’t consider the cake one to be “silly”

also i dont know why you are so opposed to a quality control measure.

Phil's avatar

if you think that a stupid question like this that has been asked a million times will lead to a meaningful discussion i want to be rude to you (even tho i didnt think i was being that rude initially)

ishotthesheriff's avatar

to me, i don’t believe the answer to (whatever it may be) the chicken or the egg coming first is really important. . . yes we could all conjure up good “theories”, but there’s no point to it with this question..

Ollgby's avatar

well phil if its such a silly question which youve heard a million times then you’ll be so good as to give us a scientifally logical answer.. And this conversation goes way beyond the question I myself am unfamiliar(unlike you phil) to the answer so I would like the learn. Your attitude towards answering the question Whatever it may be was rude arrogant and downright Neanderthal.

Phil's avatar

seems to be a pretty sensitive crowd around here. I never said I had the answer (there are millions of ways to answer this, and ultimately no answer) my point was that this is a stupid question that doesn’t bring about meaningful conversation. To say that my first comment was downright Neanderthal is quite an overstatement in my opinion, while arrogant may be a much better characterization of my attitude, which i will apologize for although i am not that sorry because to be honest i still feel that it is a stupid question and your follow up responses have not improved my opinion of you.

FLUTHER! FLUTHER! FLUTHER!

I have to agree with Phil here. The question has no answer and doesn’t even provide an avenue for interesting dialogue. It is simply stupid.

iSteve's avatar

I’m gonna have to go with… chicken!

Ollgby's avatar

The qustion being stupid has nothing to do with the fact that I am interested in this topic and this being a community site you should have the respect to answer the question as you see fit. If its so stupid don’t bother writing an answer I’m not learning anything from your negativity.

Phil's avatar

As a part of the community, i answered as i saw fit. but forgive me for interfering, continue with your stupidity.

ishotthesheriff's avatar

haha phil funny, but a little bit too harsh.
ollgby, i see your point. but. . .

@phil: I wasn’t saying that you individually asked a silly question before. What I was trying to say is that most of us had at some point said or in this case asked something that others would consider “silly”.

For example, a few months ago I went to this practical philosophy club meeting and they were all talking comparing life to Sisyphus. I was unaware about the myth of Sisyphus back then and i asked “what is Sisyphus”. Now these people thought that this was a stupid question because I was unaware of something that was general knowledge to them.

As for the question being stupid, this question isn’t much different from What’s worse: Giving birth, or getting kicked in the balls? (which also does not have any real answer since you cannot experience both). And yet the guest ion was considered a “Great Question” and got some good answers

I don’t think we need any more quality control measures. I mean if you think a question is stupid or silly or annoying, you can always choose not to answer the question. You could also select “Not Interested” so fluther does not direct such questions to you in the future. If you find someone’s answer to be offensive, just flag his answers and the fluther crew will take care of it.

And some of us , just like questions like these because it requires you to think. Yes there is no right answer to this question but people should have at least have the right to view their opinions.

If anyone is interested, check out these two articles about scientists claiming that the egg came first.

Peace.

Damn, I clicked on the wrong button. johnpowell is a idiot. Sorry.

The egg came first. The egg came first because it evolved from another animal that laid it. At least that’s what I think. Everyone views it differently, though.
