What is the largest size I can upgrade my laptop hard drive to?

Asked by mrmexican87 (1points) March 1st, 2008

I have a Dell Inspirion e1505 and I was wondering if I can beyond the 120gb that they offer on their accessories page. I was wanting more like 250gb, but people are saying that the laptop won’t recognize it.

You can definitely get 160GB but that’s not much of an increase. In my experience (& I’m no expert!) you can only get the latest SATA type drives larger than this. They use a different type of platter and head allowing larger storage in the same dimensions. A lot of laptops beyond a certain age (mine included) cannot take these, only the IDE type.
