How many licks DOES it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

Seriously… Has anyone even tried this? I think i tried it once but got go bored in the middle that i mis- counted and screwed it up… I was having this discussion with my friends not too long ago…

dang… i appreciate this guys…. i mean i got lost after about 300 some licks and i was at the point where the tootsie chocolate stuff was breakin’ through the hard shell… But, i got distracted and miscounted… I really appreciate this though… @gailcalled that’s actually really interesting though.. I’m going to get a bag of tootsie pops with my friends and do an expriment this week =D

LOL! Brings back a summers full of memories. Riding in the back of the station wagon we once had a contest and I remember 186 licks won it by 2 licks!!

I did it as a science fair project, in middle school and on average with the data I collected was 960 licks

I thought if anyone would know it would be Rob Cockerham, one of my secret heroes. Unfortunately he has not yet made that test. But you can console yourself by finding out scientifically just how much is inside a tube of toothpaste, a pumpkin, a beer keg, and much, much more. The unit of measure for a roll of Glad Wrap, for instance, is how many Rice Krispies treats it will wrap. I like the way he measured the amount of lipstick in a tube and the size of one acre. This man is serious.
