Chemical drawing software?

Asked by partyparty (9162points) February 17th, 2010

Do you know of any good software I could use to draw chemical structures?
Many years ago I used ChemWindows, which was an easy programme to use, but I assume that has long since gone.

Here you go, it has links to several chemical drawing programmes (even ChemWindows which was last updated in 2007, still a good programme to use though, even if it has been surpassed its ease of use is brilliant.)

I found that trying a few out is the only real way of knowing which one is right for you. Everyone has different needs at the end of the day.

I’m partial to chemdraw.

@shilolo Oh thanks for your reply. I have already asked if you knew of a programme I could use. ChemWindows was such an easy programme for me to use, but I will look up chemdraw. Is it reasonably easy to use for a ‘layperson’? Remember I am only looking at what is written and putting my own interpretation on it.
Many, many thanks. (This is for my friend who is so interested in homeopathy), although this book he is about to get published is not about homeopathy).
He is a lovely, lovely person, a retired professor, who continually writes his ‘swansong’, and I interpret his writing and get it to the publishing stage for him.
Thanks again.

@ModernEpicurian Thanks for the link. Please excuse my ignorance, but where will I find ChemWindows? It isn’t instantly obvious where I would look.
