Who is the photographer that matches this description?

Asked by SundayKittens (5834points) February 19th, 2010

About 3 years ago I was in Manhattan and stumbled into this gallery that was showing enormous prints of a photographer’s work that I loved. He recreated bizarre stories from the news for his photos. They all had an odd tone to them, literally and figuratively. One in particular involved a bedroom and a million roaches shot with a red gel, if I recall.
I want to talk about his work in class but cannot remember his name!
Any ideas?

Did he use multiples all painted?

Sure it was a man? Sounds a bit like Anna Fox.

@SeventhSense What do you mean?
@Harp It’s a man but I like what you showed me!

Were there multiple figures such as cats in a room. The figures and multiples being painted neon colors? I can’t remember the artist I’m thinking of.. But then I remembered Barbara Kruger who often used advertising to express her feminism.

It was photography.

Yes but this sounds like a whole planned and ordered performance piece
Tell us more. What do cockroaches have to do with news etc.?

He recreated strange news stories…this one was about an apartment that was found to be overrun with cockroaches or something like that so he recreated it and photographed it. It wasn’t stills of a performance piece, though that would be cool. I wish I remembered more than that.
I’m afraid he may be very unknown and I’ll never figure it out!
