how familiar are you with NYC or environs? i’d say if you’re just into hanging out, start by strolling around Greenwich Village, Soho and Chinatown. do whatever floats your boat – if you want to stop for coffee, find a great coffee bar. if you’re into dinner or drinks, go where ever looks interesting. if you’re into shopping, Soho has interesting stuff and Chinatown has all kinds of stuff – in Chinatown, feel free to bargain with the shopkeeper.
