Should I buy the airline tickets now?

Asked by ThoopaDan (12points) March 10th, 2008 from iPhone

My cousin is having his bachelor party down in Miami at the end of May. My bro would like to attend too however he’s starting a new job in mid-March. He could not book his own ticket due to financial restraints. So do I book our tickets now, hoping be can get the needed days off once May comes around? If he can’t, how are airline return policies? Would it a big deal to ask we take a Saturday morning flight instead of a Friday afternoon flight?

If it were me, I would only book my own ticket. A lot of the deals are non refundable. He should still be able to get a decent deal if he buys his about two weeks prior to the flight.

Thoopadan, a lot depends on where YOU live and from where you would be flying to Miami. In competitive route situations such as New York – Miami or Chicago-Miami you will find it easier to get a ‘good ” deal closer to the actual date of the party than you would if you were flying from Charlotte or Greensboro or another smaller market.

That said, there are several sites on the net that track the fluctuations in air fares over time and you might want to seek out one or two of these. I think Farewatcher.com might be one, but I think a google search might help you out here.
