What is it that makes psychedelic mushrooms...psychedelic?

Asked by RealEyesRealizeRealLies (30951points) June 2nd, 2010

I’ve never partaken, but I am fascinated by the psychedelic community.

I have some very specific questions.

Is it true that psychedelic mushrooms are grown in cow patties?

Does this work for any kind of mushroom?

To directly answer your question, certain chemicals in the mushroom make you “trip”.

I don’t partake, but only certain mushrooms contain the chemicals that make you “trip”. These chemicals come from a specific group of mushrooms regardless of nutrient source, otherwise everyone would be having fun with their Portobellos that they fertilized with manure.

I’m sure that psychedelic mushrooms can be, and are, grown with cow patties as the nutrient source, just like various other plants.

I haven’t partaken either, though I think it has more to do with the brain than it does the chemicals involved. Yeah, the chemicals trigger certain brain functions, but the craziness that happens is mostly brain induced.

Psychedelic mushrooms would just be regular mushrooms if it weren’t for our brains going haywire when we consumed them.

Basically psychedelics break down the barriers in your mind that separate internal thoughts from external perceptions. Strange that all it takes is a few chemicals to let your mind loose like that.
