In the Bible, who is "Us"?

Genesis 1:1 opens up with “And God said, Let us make man in our image”...
Who is this “Us”?? I have always thought of God as a singular being or entity…I never before caught on there could be an “Us” of more than one God!?!

God speaks of Himself in the language of men, that he may be clearly understood by men.

Was that from the King James version of the Bible? I suspect the usage is the “Royal We”; i.e., Queen Victoria’s statement, “We are not amused.”
I’d say the Trinity- Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
@janbb I checked them all and except for an occasional switching of “And God said” with “Then God said” they were all the same.
Interesting. It would be worth finding a Biblical scholar to theorize then.
Cool. Just looked at it quickly and most seem to say that it is used to imply majesty.

We were sitting around in the Galactic Cafe, as we usually do on Friday afternoons, when all of a sudden, out of the blue, in the middle of the backgammon game, He says to me: Let us make man in our image… I said “what? – “what you on, your lordship?” (he likes to think he’s some kinda cosmic hotshot that guy) He goes on, “no really, I have this idea…”
Do I get credit even though most of you look like me? Nyet.
Do I get any royalties? Nope.
But hey, in the bible he wrote “us” – well thanks a bunch!

It’s not my book, or anyone’s book. I read what the others wrote – and their interpretation is probably correct. Who knows? It was written 5000 years ago – over hundreds of years – by many people – right?
For those who think God wrote the Old Testament himself – then, yes, he probably used the royal We/Us.

Part of me was always wondering if God was referring to his Mom when he said, “Us.” I don’t know why! But there it is.
When God is referred to in the singular such as I, it is showing the being of God as the only God. When it is in the plural he is revealing something personal of his nature.
Gen. 3:22:” And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us,” us is indicative of number; the word one is also the word echad meaning to unite.

FWIW, The founder of the Mormon church, Joseph Smith, said that the original meaning of the verse was , “the Gods created.” So he taught that there are many gods who reign over different planets.
You have to research the original meanings which is not easy.

@Cruiser As I was given to understand it, “us” referred to God and his angels. The ranks of Cherubim and Seraphim. There is a whole lot left out of the bible that is picked up in Sumerian lore which covers the revolt on the Heavenly plane and the fall of certain of the Angels. Those fallen ones are what we know today as“demons”. It has been further postulated that many of those fallen ones desired the worship of man and revealed themselves to various groups as gods in order to gain worship. Some of their names are Ba’al, Molech, Vishnu, Kali. If you recognize the names, consider what it would mean if this were true. I have no proof of these assertions but I can point you towards some good reference material if your interest extends that far.

Ba’al, as in Ba’al Shem Tov means owner of a good name (also husband); Molech is King. Vishnu and Kali sound – Indian?

According to my study Bible, “The form of the word (God) is plural, indicating plentitude of power and majesty and allowing for the New Testament revelation of the triunity of the Godhead.

That’s an interesting video. Trust me, I’m not a Hinn fan, and I’m not sticking up for him. But…
You will notice that Hinn consistently looks to the left (our right) when answering the questions. This indicates that he is indeed telling the truth from memory.
