I think I have pneumonia. Help?

Asked by xStarlightx (416points) June 13th, 2010

Ive been sick for about two weeks now with a really bad sore throat and I’ve been pretty dizzy and weak. I went to the ER a few days ago and they just said its a simple sore throat and there is nothing to worry about.

Since last night I haven’t been able to sleep and I’ve been throwing up bloody mucus and vomiting whenever I cough. I’m also starting to get the shakes and a bit feverish along with my nose running like a river. I’m scared to go back to the ER because I don’t want to have to deal with them thinking I’m pretending to be sick. It also hurts when I breathe and it is hard to breathe.

I also have work today at 12:30 and I don’t know what I should do.

Please help.

Phenomena? Do you mean pneumonia? That would be easily determined by a chest x-ray. I would suggest a walk-in urgent care clinic rather than the ER.

I would do that but at the urgent care I go to isn’t open on Sundays.

Then find another one that is.

I can understand not wanting to go back to the ER, but you should be seen sooner rather than later. Throwing up bloody mucous is not normal. Depending on the amount of blood, it could be from busted blood vessels due to the coughing, but it could also be a sign of something else going on. If you have a thermometer, you should start checking your temperature so that you can tell whoever you see what kind of fever you’ve been running.

Like @marinelife said, go somewhere that can do a chest x-ray. Don’t go to work; you may be contagious.

Two girls at my work had it and they never told me till I started coughing up a storm but I did have the flu shot uuugh, the only problem with calling in is I have a blood disorder and I already took a whole week off and I’m just conflicted.

If you can’t be seen anywhere else to day except for the ER, you need to go to the ER.

Nonono, it’s too dangerous for you to go somewhere, I got it before, all you need to do is stay in bed and make sure to always have a hot drink next to you. Have a short course of flu pills o whatever, if you go somewhere, it might turn fatal. I suggest you call a doctor to come to your house. That’s what I did.

Who gives a fuck about calling off?

You won’t be working at all if you don’t take care of your health.

Go get your shit sorted. Get to a doctor and get fixed. You don’t mess around with your health. Bloody mucus? Vomiting? Dizziness? Are you kidding me?

Seaofclouds's avatar

Depending on what the blood disorder is, the fact that you are vomitting bloody mucous is even more of a reason to go to the ER.

xStarlightx's avatar

I’m trying to find a way there. Everyone is still asleep and my friends are being flakey fucks.

GET A CAB.

If you don’t want to see a doctor, what in the world do you want us to do? We can’t help you.

bostonbeliever's avatar

yeah take a taxi if you need to.
just go to the ER, whichever one you prefer and tell them your symptoms. better to act like a hypochondriac and get cured than to act like an idiot and nearly die from pneumonia.

Call 9 1 1 right now.

Just as a update, I went to the ER and I have two new clots in my lungs. Its not so bad just sucks.

Seaofclouds's avatar

That does suck. I’m glad you went to get it checked. I hope you are feeling better.

Val123's avatar

@xStarlightx From what? What are the clots from?

xStarlightx's avatar

I have a blood disorder that makes my blood a lot more thicker then it should be, thus having clots reappear.

Val123's avatar

So…did you tell this to the ER people the first time?

xStarlightx's avatar

Yeah, they pretty much ignored it. I hate that freaking ER.
