How often do you wear your hair up?

Asked by Facade (22937points) July 6th, 2010

Do you feel any different when you do?

I’ve noticed hat when women go to special events and are in formal wear, an up-do is the most prevalent style. I have my own conclusions, but what are your experiences with this?

This question could also pertain to any change from your normal hairstyle.

I know this is a fluff topic, but I’m just doing my own little experiment. Humor me!

I wear it up or partially up when I go out often.

Otherwise, I put it up off my neck when it is incredibly hot like it is right now.

Never. I don’t mess with my hair much at all. The most I do is put it in a ponytail when I work out. If I could do different hairstyles with it and it look good, I would.

I have very long hair and I wear it up pretty much daily. On the contrary, if I’m dressing up or going somewhere nice I usually wear it down and wavy.

I usually wear my hair up for formal occasions but I will occasionally wear it down. Up until recently my hair has been very short. I’m just in the process of growing it out and I’m remembering just how hot hair is on the back of your neck. Thank goodness my hair is long enough I can get it into a ponytail.

@tranquilsea @marinelife You both make me glad that I don’t have to deal with the hair-on-neck issue lol. That is, unless I decide to loc up. Locs are definitely hot and heavy…

I wear my hair up when at work, and if I’m doing housework because it keeps it out of the way.

This is actually very interesting because we’d been chatting at work recently during our teabreak and some of the younger girls said they liked their hair up when they go out, but fancier than just pulled up into a large clip like most of us do at work. The women around my age though (40’s) mostly said that, like me, they wear it up fpr work and housework, but if they were to go somewhere special they’d wear it down, but curled or even straightened so that it looks longer. Cool questiion honey <hugs> xx

I think I look better with my hair down so when I go somewhere special I tend to style it down. No up-dos for me. For everyday things I wear my hair however, but if I’m having a not-so-good hair day I’ll put it up in a ponytail or something.

The vast majority of the time, I wear my long hair in a knot/bun. I put it up after I wash it without bothering to dry it. I’m home with my kids and spend most of my time playing with them, getting things done around the house, or running errands and don’t want to have to deal with my hair.

When we’re going out or I want to look nice, I blow dry my hair. Sometimes I’ll curl the ends a bit. Since I wear it up out of my way most of the time, I wear it down for special occasions! My hair is one thing about myself, physically, that I love. It is naturally straight, fine but thick, and an interesting blondish/reddish/brownish color with natural highlights. Good thing too, because if my hair needed special attention I’d probably just cut it all off to not have to bother with it.

Today it is 95˚ and I am thankful that my hair is finally long enough to clip up. My choice is clean, fairly well-behaved and no-fuss. When I fiddle with hair-dryers, rollers, products, my hair looks exactly the same as when I don’t. That makes things simple.

I wear it up all summer unless it’s a rainy day, and down all winter. I wore it up for a wedding a few weeks ago and didn’t feel so fancy as it was the same hairdo I use for weeding the garden (minus the filthy old sweat catcher hat- gotta wash that!).

I’m more likely to wear my hair up than wear it down. I have long hair and it takes some time to make it look nice. Putting it up in a bun is so much easier.

And don’t forget pigtails and bunches.

I wear my hair up when it is hot outside. But if I am going out, I strighten my hair and have a ponytail on top with soft curls, and the bottom with them too. It’s the easiest way for me to do it. But during the winter I wear it down, so my neck doesn’t get cold.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I have long hair. I’d say I wear it up 3 days out of 7 in any given week.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

It depends – when I go to weddings and it’s for a good friend of mine, I’ll do an up-do, nothing complicated..but still an up-do. Otherwise, never. (unless ponytails count)

I put it up in a ponytail when I’m at home or doing something active outside, but it always comes down when I leave the house or when someone knocks on the door. I don’t know why I do this, I just think it looks better when it’s down.

I wear my long hair up all summer and down more in the winter, but up sometimes in cold weather too.

Seaofclouds's avatar

I have my hair up in a ponytail most of the time (at home and at work). When I’m going out, it depends on what I’m wearing and where I am going. If I’m going out to somewhere really nice and I’m all dressed up, I usually have it up with some curls to the sides or half of it up and the other half down.

If to go into the shower then often.
If to clean house or exercise then often.
To leave the house, rarely. I have a soft profile which doesn’t lend itself well to the style.

Blondesjon's avatar

I actually wear my hair in.

perspicacious's avatar

Pretty much all of the time.

free_fallin's avatar

I wear mine up often. I feel sexier with it up because I think I have a beautiful neck and shoulders.

Facade's avatar

@Neizvestnaya What’s a soft profile?

Ludy's avatar

i wear it up specially when is hot cause i have a lot of hair, but because my hair is curly when i wear it with a hair clip and all my curls sit on top even if it’s simple looks like overdone like if im going to a party or something which is cool when i do go because it a very easy hair do :)

Neizvestnaya's avatar

@Facade
I don’t have a strong jawline or chin.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

I wear it up often especially when it’s warm out.It also depends on what I am wearing or where I’m going.

I always wear mine up. My hair is too curly and messy to casually wear down. I’d have to straighten it.. which is a giant pain in my ass.
