Abba Zabba-No memories from childhood. It just pisses me off that they don’t sell it around here and if I want it I have to order it from here
Whatchamacallit-I recall seeing commercials for Whatchamacallit when I was a kid and dying to get one. They are still my favorite candy bar!

VohuManah's avatar

Strange Finnish licorice I got from a candy store. It was raspberry flavored and had a panda on it.

jazmina88's avatar

and gob stoppers

reeses, bar none.

@VohuManah I love that licorice it’s so yummy
I love Milky Ways

Austinlad's avatar

Chocolate or maple walnut fudge. When I was a kid my mother had a recipe for chocolate fudge fit for the gods. She used HALF the cocoa the recipe called for, which made it incredibly light and smooth. Alas, I’ve never been able to make it myself even though it’s a very easy recipe. It was in the making that made the difference.

DominicX's avatar

SweeTarts and chocolate with marzipan. :)

I’ve been eating SweeTarts since I was a little kid, in all its forms, including the giant chewy ones. Got them in my stocking for Christmas every year. :) I’ll always miss the lemon flavor. Can’t believe it’s gone. It was the best one. :(

Ghirardelli chocolate nut squares.

zenele's avatar

@Samantha_Rae Is that Reeses, bar none. Or Reeses Bar-None (the candy)? I’m not from the States).

Yay! (They let me keep the Q. It’s no longer a simple fucking poll).

MissAusten's avatar

Whatchamacallit !!!!!! I only rarely indulge now, but even just the sight of one reminds me of walking to the drugstore when I was a kid. I loved buying candy there because the cash register had one of those little automatic change dispensers. After you paid, the exact amount of change would slide down a little chute and collect at the bottom. For some reason I loved that!

zenele's avatar

@MissAusten Is that the name of the candy –
Whatchamacallit – or do you not recall its name?

Mexicanamerican's avatar

Milk dove chocolate and hot tamales.. I can eat those forever..

AmWiser's avatar

PayDay – they don’t make em like they use to
Candy Cigaretts – haven’t seen these in years
Sugar Daddy’s

Austinlad's avatar

One more entry… Fudge Love. It’s made in Fort Worth. Check it out if you love fudge. I think you can order it online.

MissAusten's avatar

@zenele It’s the name of a candy bar. It has caramel and peanut flavored crisp rice covered in chocolate. Whatchamacallit has been around almost as long as I have!

chyna's avatar

zero candy bar reminds me of when we went to the city swimming pool in grade school during the summer and bought these for lunch. They froze them for some reason and they were so good.

MissAusten's avatar

My all-time favorite candy comes from a family-owned chocolate shop called DeBrand in Indiana, where I grew up. It doesn’t really have any childhood significance attached to it because my parents didn’t discover it until I was in upper middle school or high school. Once we found it, I certainly looked forward to finding some in my Easter basket or Christmas stocking. Yeah, my parents did those until I graduated from college. What!?

Now I stock up whenever I go home for a visit. It is the most incredible chocolate I’ve ever had. The raspberry truffles are to diiiiiiiieeee for!!

Berserker's avatar

Runts. Those ones that are shaped like different fruit. Because I’m such a social sheep, like everyone, the bananas were my favourite. (Other than the raspberries.)

But I also like those necklace candies that have Rockets like candy pieces around a string.
Those rocked ass.

M&M’s. Fucking A.

@jonsblond Lemonhead

lol, I drive by the home of Lemonheads, Boston Baked Beans and Atomic Fireballs every week.

The Ferrara Pan Candy Company

It makes me think of summer camp when I was ten years old.

jonsblond's avatar

@jaytkay haha…I’m watching Chopped at the moment. Lemonheads, backed beans and atomic fireballs would make an interesting combination for the dessert portion of the show.

chyna's avatar

@jaytkay I love fireballs.

jaytkay's avatar

@jonsblond Lemonheads, backed beans and atomic fireballs would make an interesting combination for the dessert portion of the show.

And Red Hots. Ferrara makes Red Hots, too

@chyna I love fireballs

Atomic Fireballs are teh BOMB!

knitfroggy's avatar

@chyna We must have went to the same pool, because I always got frozen Zero bars too! I always got a Zero and Fun Dip! I always thought the white thing that you did the dipping with tasted better than the powder stuff!

@jaytkay I have a huge container of Atomic Fireballs in my cabinet right now. I buy them at Sam’s Club. They are awesome. When I was a kid, my sister and I used to have contests with Dad to see who could keep the fireball in their mouth the longest. Dad was the champ. He could have two in his mouth and never take them out!

SamIAm's avatar

@zenele : i meant reese’s… like hands down, my absolute favortie! sorry for the confusion

knitfroggy's avatar

There was a candy named Bar None wasn’t there?

chyna's avatar

@knitfroggy OMG, fun dip! Yes! I love fun dip. I was eating some at my desk one day and my boss walks by and says “how old are you?” Ha, who cares, I love fun dip.
P.S. Your dad is my new hero.

knitfroggy's avatar

@chyna I will let my dad know! :) How could someone be to old to eat Fun Dip? That’s like saying someone is too old to chew gum! Crazy.

DominicX's avatar

@knitfroggy @chyna haha my boyfriend loves Fun Dip. He got me re-interested in it. :D

It always turns his tongue blue, though. :P It’s like those SweeTarts candy canes.

chyna's avatar

@DominicX @knitfroggy Ok, I’m getting some tomorrow. You guys have me wanting some.

knitfroggy's avatar

@chyna @DominicX If I was eating Fun Dip somewhere besides the pool, I would pour the three flavors of “dip” together in a bowl. Made it more interesting, I guess. I’m still saying the dipper thing is the best part tho.

chyna's avatar

@knitfroggy I save the dipper for the last. It’s kind of like the “desert” of the fun dip.

CHARELSTON CHEWS!! Frozen and then shatterd and shove all the pieces in your mouth and sing the Star Spangled Banned Ethel Merman Style!! ...

tinyfaery's avatar

My favorite candy is Nerds, but I didn’t really eat them when I was a kid. Red Vines and Junior Mints were candies that I loved as a kid, even though I only had them when we went to the movies. They are still my favorite movie candy.

jazmina88's avatar

anyone remember pop rocks?? You can only buy it at sex shops now…... :(

AmWiser's avatar

@jazmina88 I remember pop rocks. Sold only at sex shops, how sad.

jaytkay's avatar

@jazmina88 anyone remember pop rocks?? You can only buy it at sex shops now

??

They were fun. They weren’t THAT fun.

Cruiser's avatar

Not true!! Pop Rocks can be found at the Dollar store next to the condoms!!

tinyfaery's avatar

I can get pop-rocks here. They are not that hard to find. Any mall candy shop carries them.

perspicacious's avatar

Butterfinger candy bars make me think about my childhood. They were huge back then. Clove gum also reminds me of those days. My mother carried it in her purse.

jazmina88's avatar

well, you know, here in KY, they think most anything fun should be illegal

But there is even a joke on Friends about pop rocks and the sexual possibilities…...

as long as your tummy doesnt blow up like the rumors said

JLeslie's avatar

I love candy. My favorite is probably pecan turtles. But Peanut Chews make me think of my grandma, and I really like those too, hard to find though. It is impossible to pick just one.

I also like:
Mounds
M&M’s (I like plain, but the coconut ones are really good also)
Reese’s Peanut Butter cups
Chocolate covered cherries (with the liquid center)
Snickers
Baby Ruth
Tootsie Rolls

I love candy.

jazmina88's avatar

coconut M and Ms?? where???!!!!!

JLeslie's avatar

@jazmina88 They came out with them about a year or so ago for a short time, maybe it was a test market thing, and everyone sold out. I never got to try them back then even though I knew about them, and then a few days ago I was at Walmart and there they were at the checkout line! I could not believe it. I am thinking maybe they decided to bring them back because they sold so well. They are yum!

jazmina88's avatar

The link @knitfroggy has….has them…..and reception sticks. I remember going out to eat with the family and getting those for dessert. Must try coconut M and Ms…...

JLeslie's avatar

@jazmina88 It’s saying limited time only again http://www.mms.com/us/about/products/coconutmms/ run, don’t walk. LOL.

Dr_Dredd's avatar

Reeses peanut butter cups, but not just any Reeses. They’ve got to be the Easter ones, shaped like large eggs. I don’t know why, but they just taste better than regular Reeses. It’s a mystery.

zenele's avatar

@JLeslie Limited Time offers are brilliant: how long is “limited?” I still buy something from a yogurt company that came out with a limited edition last Pesach.

jazmina88's avatar

@zenele is Pesach before the millenium??

zenele's avatar

Which millenium, I’m old. 1000 or 2000?

JLeslie's avatar

@zenele I am guessing it means while supplies last, but I am not sure.

JLeslie's avatar

@zenele maybe @jazmina88 does not know what Pesach is.

jazmina88's avatar

might as well go back to jesus…..did he get candy>?????
no, but I can google with the best of em

NOw that is funny…..I had no idea Pesach is Passover…...with that Jesus reference, my zenele, I am laughing out loud!!!

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Good & Plenty – they bring back fond memories of being at the movie theater as a child.

zenele's avatar

@JLeslie Nu, so tell her. Why do Jews always answer a question with another question? I don’t know – do you?

Pronounced kvestion.

sliceswiththings's avatar

M&Ms. This old lady family friend who I considered my grandma but wasn’t used to watch me a few days after school. She had a huge jar of M&Ms, so I remember crawling into the living room and sneaking by her in her armchair to steal some.

rooeytoo's avatar

There is a candy bar in Australia called Time Out and it is my absolute favorite (this week, next week it could be different.) And nope does not remind me of my childhood, they were never available in USA.

zenele's avatar

@rooeyalso

;-)

Send me some? I’ll trade for an Israeli “Hershey” type bar.

knitfroggy's avatar

@jazmina88 You can get the Coconut M & Ms at Walmart. And let me tell you- they are wonderful!

mattbrowne's avatar

In Germany there’s a candy called “Nimm 2” i.e. “Take 2”. When I was a kid I told my parents that the proper use of one candy includes eating and enjoying it as well as receiving a second one because it says so on the label. I remember contemplating what would happen next. 4, 8, 16… Wow. I could end up with a lot of candies. It was the first time when I got my first inkling about exponentiations.

zenele's avatar

Israel’s pesek zman – means “a break” like time off from work or something – is tasty. It was such a success – it now has about 20 diferent kinds and sizes. Also has limited editions, etcetera.

dynamicduo's avatar

I absolutely love chocolate covered anything, coffee beans, raisins, nuts, I’ll even take chocolate covered chocolate bits. But now that I live on a farm, I’ve pretty much banned these candies from the house – odds are if you find a “chocolate covered thing” on the ground, it’s really not a candy at all, but a little animal nugget. The risk is simply too high to make these candies worthwhile anymore!

JLeslie's avatar

@zenele Hahahahaha. Well, seems she knows now, so all is well.

jazmina88's avatar

but now I want chocolate coffee beans…....:)

zenele's avatar

Now I want some raisenettes. And M & M’s – but not coconut. Black licorice is good too. Oh and some jelly beans and a Cherry Blossom.

Dr_Dredd's avatar

@zenele I love the peanut butter M&M’s. Not the peanut ones, but the ones with actual peanut butter in the center.

JLeslie's avatar

I completely forgot Raisenettes. I buy them all of the time. I have convinced myself it is a healthy food.

zenele's avatar

It is healthy. Send me some – we don’t have them here. Care package to Israel – maybe for Independance Day?

PayDay….Fourth grade. The candy store (before “health issues” became an issue) was in the fourth grade classroom. The students who behaved in class were allowed to sell the candy. They cost 5–10 cents a bar. So for some reason, all my candy memories are of fourth grade or going to the fourth grade classroom to buy candy. All the candies were set on a table in boxes with the lids usually pushed up with a pop-out display. After recess (the only time the candy was sold) they were immediately boxed up and stored in a metal case in the classroom.

Boston Baked Beans were also sold there. They weren’t from Boston and they weren’t beans. They were reddish candy coated peanuts.
Sugar Babies were small hard-shelled caramel-like bean-shaped thingys.

I also remember some sweet liquid that came in these pop bottle shaped wax containers that were about four inches in length…you would bite of the top and drink the liquid that was pure sugar, really. (Anyone remember those?) Oh, and at Halloween, those orange wax harmonicas that you couldn’t eat…but you chewed. Red Hots. Candy necklaces.Dubble Bubble Gum.

Um…yumm…..I think. I don’t know how our teachers coped with all that sugar in our bodies…or our parents!

And if you really want to satisfy your nostalgic cravings, you can go to:

www.hometownfavorites.com

And in the UK (for UK childhood favorites):

www.aquarterof.co.uk

(DR is not affiliated in any way shape or form with the above businesses, but if they want to throw some retro candy her way….please feel free to do so.)

knitfroggy's avatar

@chyna Did you get you some Fun Dip today??

JLeslie's avatar

@zenele Maybe in the winter. This time of year they would melt before I even made it to my local post office. It’s been over a 100 degrees many days. I am surprised Israel doesn’t have them, do you have other nestle products? Haha, I’m just thinking of another generalization, not only do Jews answer a question with a question, but they also buy Hersheys not Nestle.

zenele's avatar

We eat Nestle cereal all the time. I think it’s the competition with the local “Elite” choclate factory – they squeezed them out. I see a lot fo Swiss choclates – but not many american. Mand M’s – but they are really expensive – like 2 dollars for a little baggy thing of 50 grams. I could get two chocolate bars for 2 dollars – just so you’ll have an idea. A coke is still a buck here.

rooeytoo's avatar

Do you mean a can of coke or a 600ml bottle? Here in a convenience store a can is usually $2.50 and a bottle $3.90. I think everything is very expensive here. It is probably because there is so much social welfare, except for old people, not a good place for oldies! So, it’s hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work I go, heheheh!

Aster's avatar

Bonomo’s Turkish Taffy was my favorite. It isn’t in stores now but u can get it over the internet. Next would probably be Sugar Daddy’s.
I was addicted to Smith Brothers Wild Cherry cough drops for years.

DarlingRhadamanthus's avatar

@Aster Smith Brothers Wild Cherry Drops!!!!! I remember those!!! :) Thanks for the trip down memory lane…......

Aster's avatar

@DarlingRhadamanthus You’re quite welcome even though I can’t pronounce your name! ( I tried to like the licorice Smith Bros but it never worked)

rooeytoo's avatar

It is not strictly speaking candy, but I loved Beechnut Peppermint Chicklets. Hmmmm I think chicklet is another brand, but it was Beechnut Peppermint gum that looked like chicklets but tasted a million times better. I don’t think you can buy them anywhere anymore. I know chicklets are still available but very difficult to find in Australia and they are usually imported from the middle east, not USA so have a different flavor than what I remember. I have succumbed to chewing sugar free gum which is very much like chewing on slightly flavored rubber bands but does have the okay of my dentist.

DarlingRhadamanthus's avatar

@Aster…..Rad-ah-man-thuz :)

The licorice flavour was not tasty. :P

Dutchess_III's avatar

Tootsie pops are the only candies that remind me of my childhood.

The rest are now illegal. Like, candy cigarettes, and good stuff like that. ;)
