Should one's "People" ratio be close to 1/1?

Asked by josie (30934points) August 2nd, 2011

My “People” ratio is 356/139.

I am pretty sure I will never pump up the 139 to 356. I annoy too many jellies for that to happen.

But is it somehow unhealthy to have a ratio that is not closer to 1/1. Is there a sort of downside to it. Like the trade deficit?

It is truly a technical question.

Are my tidepool housekeeping skills in need of refinement?

I think 153/112 is much more healthy.

Does it matter how many followers one has? I don’t think so.
As for the “following” part I can explain a bit. For instance others follow if they see you helped them or if you gave somewhat interesting replies to others or just asked good questions worth debating.

I don’t think it makes any sense at all to look for a rule of thumb there. I don’t even know why the numbers are posted.

If you want to change your ratio, you can drop a lot of people from your list, and what good would that do?

I have a 4:3 ratio. Meh? What’s it matter. I think it’s awesome that you have 356 folks @josie.

Mine is so low…I forget to add people. :( I’d prefer to have it as high as yours @josie. Who cares about the ratio?!

I was not even aware of these numbers. I checked and I’m at 66/132.
I must be overlooking to follow some really good people!

73/60.

To be honest, this is the first time I’ve ever looked at those numbers.

I have always noticed a discrepancy between how many I follow, and how many follow me…I have noticed it on the profiles of others who are outspoken. Less people following you just means you are more controversial than average. I don’t think that is a bad thing in any form. Fuck ‘em if they don’t care for you, methinks! :)

I just don’t pay attention, and I always assume that I’m following people and turn out to be wrong.

Coloma's avatar

I don’t even pay attention. I added about 10 jellies when I was first here, and, I have’nt added anyone new since. Oh, my daughter, @8convulsions lol
Who cares!

I think you are on to something as my 252 to 245 makes me feel energized!

bob_'s avatar

I don’t really see the point of following people, so I only add those who have added me first. It seems like the polite thing to do.

With, um, some exceptions.

I am not going to follow anyone else and I forbid anyone else from following me. My ratio is now at a nice, round 200/150 and I intend to keep it that way.

51/74 .. okay, what the fucks wrong with me then people? Huh? Huh?

Oh who cares really. I forget to add people. I sort of wish I had followed @Gailcalled’s philosophy but I didn’t know she had one when I started fluthering!

I love you all.

I’ve never even looked before… I’m at 233/452. I am always amazed to see that I’m not following someone I thought I’d been following all along. I just have a very bad memory!

Blueroses's avatar

It’s quality, not quantity (she says humbly, knowing she does follow @josie) XD

Unless one is closely monitoring their lurve total and/or the Community Feed, it’s easy to lose track of who has added one to their People list, so there are going to be times when additions aren’t reciprocated, hence the preponderance of asymmetrical ratios.

ucme's avatar

I’ve not once followed/added anyone the entire time i’ve been here, only responded in kind when someone does the deed to me. Therefore mine’s pretty equal…...I think.

_zen_'s avatar

Remember when you could only follow 50? Then 100? With all my changes, some poeple had followed me a few times and I “took up space”. Then they let us follow 500. Do you really need to follow 500 people?

dappled_leaves's avatar

I’m not sure what comes from following people here… does it mean their questions are flagged as “new for you” or what have you?

SpatzieLover's avatar

@dappled_leaves Under the “just for you” section, you can read questions asked by the people you’re following.

Er hm, well I denno. Follow who you wanna follow, and those who wanna follow you will follow you. Fuck the rest of that, it’s not all that important.
