What is your favorite Christmas/Winter Holiday movie?

Asked by anniereborn (15511points) December 3rd, 2013

I watched “Miracle on 34th Street” (original) every year forever. I still love it. But, now it’s “A Christmas Story” every year.

I also love “A Charlie Brown Christmas”

It’s a Wonderful Life. : )

My two top favorites are A Christmas Carol (the 1951 British version), and White Christmas (1954). I never get tired of either one.

I used to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” every year and still love it, but I think I’ve seen it once too often… at least for a while.

Don’t know if this counts, but it is now officially DIsney’s Frozen. That movie was just great.

Before that, it used to be How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Elf

Depending on how much I’ve had to drink my mood, either claymation Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, or In Bruges. In Bruges isn’t technically a “winter movie,” but it takes place in the winter, and all the characters spend the whole time hunched over in their coats and looking miserable. When stuff like this happens it fills my heart with holiday cheer. :)

The Muppet Christmas Carol, naturally. I am also fond of the animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Nightmare Before Christmas, and the TV special Olive, the Other Reindeer (I have great memories watching these with my younger brother.)

There aren’t many I like, but Elf, Polar Express & the recent animated Christmas Carol voiced by Jim Carrey/Gary Oldman stand out from a surprisingly poor crowd.

The one where Arnold flies around in a Turboman costume.

Muppet Christmas Carol all the way.

Another vote for Muppet Christmas Carol.

For years it was Scrooged with Bill Murray. Now i like a variety of the Hallmark Christmas movies. My all time favorite is November Christmas with Sam Elliott. a happy tear-jerker!

None, I think they all kind of suck.

I’m not sure this counts as a Christmas/holiday movie, but I love Meet Me in St. Louis . My favorite part is when Judy Garland sings Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Other than that, it is a tradition to watch A Christmas Story every year.

I love ‘em all! I love Nester, and Charlie Brown Christmas, and Polar Express, and Jack Frost which makes me cry but it’s so sweet, and The Christmas shoes which makes me cry cry cry cry, and Muppet Christmas which makes it all better after all the crying, and Eloise At Christmas because she is just so darned much like my daughter, but absolutely because it can’t be Christmas or winter without the hot and cold brothers, The Year Without Santa Claus. GASP! Deep breaths.

I’d have to rate a Charlie Brown Christmas as number 1 and probably How the Grinch Stole Christmas as number 2.

But I also love Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and most versions of A Christmas Carol, with Patrick Stewart’s version being my favorite.

I’m probably the only person on earth who doesn’t like It’s a Wonderful Life

Probably my favourite is Holiday Inn, which is the film White Christmas was based on. It’s sooo much better than the remake, although definitely less PC. I also love Going My Way, the ending of which makes me tear up every single time.

For New Year’s, Holiday Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant is a must. As is, of course, any b&w film starring Fred Astaire. Actually, that makes me wonder if Edward Everett Horton is the real New Year’s draw…

A Christmas Carol – starring the Captain, of course.

A Muppet Christmas Carol – natch.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

And of course, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the real version, not that Jim Carey bullshit).

Jim Carrey’s version of the Grinch stank, but I really enjoyed his animated version of A Christmas Carol. Give it a try, I think you’ll like it. This is coming from someone who doesn’t generally like Jim Carrey.

Yikes, almost forgot another of my faves—The Bishop’s Wife with David Niven and Loretta Young—and in perfect casting, Cary Grant as Dudley the Angel. Like “It’s a Wonderful Life,” which is some ways B’sW resembles and was made only one year earlier, it celebrates the best aspects of Christmas

OK, I can confess-don’t tell my husband. I LOVE Charlie Brown Christmas, How the grinch stole Christmas (cartoon version with Boris Karloff as Grinch); Rudolph the red nosed reindeer; Frosty the snowman. Since I am being honest with my jellies, I love the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown; Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry. There, I said it. Yes, and also, It’s a wonderful life. Jimmy Stewart at his best!!
