If Ted Bundy murdered women because he hated women, why did he only kill white women and not just any women?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) June 9th, 2014

Looking at the list of Ted Bundy victims, I did not see any Asian women, Black or Hispanic women. I wonder why that was. If the reason he killed women was some hatred for them, would he not have killed any woman of any nationality he had opportunity to kill? Was the reason he only chose white women was because of transference, they were the stand-in for some woman in his life he hated but could not kill?

Well what’s to preclude a maniac from wearing the label of racist as well? Who knows ? Perhaps he merely hated white women. Maybe he didn’t realize the efficacy in the pc position of “equal opportunity” killer.

David Berkowitz avoided blondes.
There have been a boatload of books and articles written about Ted Bundy, I’m sure a little research would turn up your answer.

When I first heard this 20 years ago I though it was Al Bundy, and I got confused.

I read a book about him once. His problems stemmed back to his father, who might have been his grandfather (his mother’s father.)

I had thought he had been dumped by a woman and he was killing girls/women that reminded him of her. I could be wrong.

Because a Latino or black woman would have beat the crap out of him.

I have never heard that he killed them because he hated women.

He probably was only sexually attracted to white women.

Do people kill women because they love them? Maybe he was bored and did not have cable?

When did you have to be sexually attracted to a woman to kill her in cold blood?

Ted Bundy was a deeply disturbed heterosexual male of relatively high intelligence. Born in 1946 in a home for unwed mothers, he grew up in a time when this was not socially acceptable. This is the start of his troubles.

So why did he only murder women who were white? Most murders occur with someone of the same skin color. Bundy, and keep in mind when he was born in the US, targeted women who were white, just like he was.

This wasn’t about sex, but about deeply rooted deviance that blossomed into dominance of the worst kind. Bundy preyed on women and took advantage of their innocence before reveling in making them fear for their lives.

He had a very specific type. That’s what he targeted.

Ted Bundy was extremely active in the Young Republicans throughout his college years, attended the 1968 Republican National Convention in Miami for Nelson Rockefeller, and later was a campaign worker for various Republican candidates, including the reelection campaign of Washington Governor Evans, then afterward hired as assistant to the chairman of the Washington State Republican Party. He bragged about it. It was his hook. Only lily white women would talk to a guy like that in the 1960’s and 70’s. No other woman would touch him with a ten foot pole.

He was fixated on a type. He was killing the same long-haired, brown-haired woman over and over.

@Hypocrisy_Central If his problem was associated with feelings of guilt, much is explained.

Most serial killers have a “type”. It’s the ones that don’t have a “type” that get away with it.

It’s how Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer, got away with it for so long. He killed random women – prostitutes mostly – people that wouldn’t be missed. And he didn’t have a “type”. If he’d worn condoms when he raped them, he would never have been caught. Thanks, Science, for DNA analysis.

That’s like asking why Jeffrey Dahmer only killed boys. Something trips their triggers.

@Hypocrisy_Central “When did you have to be sexually attracted to a woman to kill her in cold blood?”

Most serial killers have deeply rooted psychosexual issues and only kill those who trigger those issues in them.

cheebdragon's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central you don’t have to hate someone to kill them. If anything, I’d say he liked them a little too much.

Again, if all he wanted to do was kill them, he needed only to use is credentials to gain enough trust to play them into his hands; his credentials could have been used to in his favor. If all he wanted was to snuff them out, why would he care less on trying to appear as date material to them?

I might be wrong but I think at least two were blonde.

@Hypocrisy_Central Honey, you’re trying to apply your own twisted form of logic to someone else’s twisted form of logic.

It’s not going to mesh. You both are very different flavors of sociopath.

Paradox25's avatar

There was some speculation Bundy only targeted females that resembled a woman he apparently deeply loved, but who had broken up with him. He didn’t target blonds, at least from what I’m aware of. He allegedly became devastated after that break-up, but I’m not sure if this was the real reason he started murdering. He tortured animals at a young age, and nobody really knows when he started murdering. Some have speculated Ted could had started murdering people when he was as young as 14.

cheebdragon's avatar

He did in fact kill a few blondes…..his first victim was a blond girl that he killed when he was 15. His 3 or 4th victim was also a blond with blue eyes.

WOW! All this time I thought I was a homophobic, delusional, misogynistic, holier than thou, arrogant, snobby, bigot with “Sky Daddy” complex……if only someone would have told me months ago I was just a mere sociopath I could have gone on a Christian jihad and blamed it on my mind…..wow, what a miss opportunity ~~~

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
