How do you feel when you see your fav actor / character in a bad shape after couple of years?

Asked by imrainmaker (8380points) April 10th, 2016

Recently saw pic of Home Alone kid turned into guy and he was looking terrible… due to drug abuse may be. Same is the case with Lindsey Lohan. She may not be my favorite but still its hard to believe what she has turned into. How would you feel in such scenario?

People change and age, regardless of bad habits. I am in my mid-later 50’s now and trust me, it’s a shock to see people you haven’t seen in decades, in real life or celebrities from your past and witness the scarring of the passage of time. haha
Everyone ages differently and it’s not so much about the aging process as it is the images we keep in our minds from the past.

Everybody gets old. Old is not attractive. It shocks me to see Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp…Goldie Hawn, Eddy Murphy….and myself. :(

The initial surprise is over in seconds, because my mind shifts to “oh, that’s right life is cruel and short.” Then it shifts to “Why is it you keep forgetting that?”

I think Lindsay Lohan is doing ok now.

With actors and actresses doing badly, I think it’s sad that with the opportunities they have, they can’t keep it together. However, I know they have a lot of stress, too, although a different type of stress than the regular person who is not in the limelight.

I’m just glad I don’t have the money for a facelift, because I’d probably use it….but then I see pics of people who’ve had one and it’s like, OMG!

I grew up seeing movies with ugly/old Joan Crawford. When I started watching some of her silent movies from the 20’s, I was amazed at what a beauty she had once been. Proof

Betty Davis too.

@filmfann and @Dutchess_III. I agree. She and Bette became increasingly coarser as they grew older, although I think Bette was still very beautiful in “All About Eve” (1950).

Sheer shock. I wonder how those who knew me back then and haven’t seen me since would recoil in horror. I’m supposedly one of the lucky ones who age quite well yet none escape the ravages of time. The wear abd tear will always be there.

Meh. I’m indifferent. I had no illusions that anyone in Hollywood was in any way different than anyone else. Access to cosmetic surgery and personal trainers aside, time maarching across one’s face and person is inevetable. Beats the alternative. Our pursuit of ways to pretend that we haven’t aged is a waste, in my opinion. And the pursuit of approval from younger people based on the fact that they are younger is absurd and devalues the older person on multiple levels. I’m more saddened when something destructive has happened, like when Tim Curry had a stroke. He had such a fantastic voice.

Since I’ve been dressing for work I’m getting a significant amount of double takes again, mainly because I still have a nice, lean, long body. Long legs. Most of my life I got that. But they get a little closer, and see that I’m older, and the disappointment that goes across their face kinda hurts a little. But, it’s better that the harassment I used to get that was sometimes scary.

Of course I think it’s tragic when a young life is ruined by addiction, but if it’s simply aging that you’re talking about, then no. Unless one defines “attractive” as being appealing to a population strictly for breeding, there’s a whole lot more to “attractive” than having been sexually desirable in one’s youth.

Indifferent. I have no emotional ties to any famous actors, so their personal health is of no consequence to me. While I do hate to see people let themselves go, or throw their lives away to hard drug use, ultimately an actor’s personal life is none of my business.
