Care to share your deviled egg recipe?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46814points) April 9th, 2019

Mine is egg yolks, mayo (Miracle Whip mayo), a touch of white sugar, a touch of smoke sauce, a touch of mustard, a touch of vinegar, a touch of lemon juice, salt, pepper.
I bought a bakers frosting funnel to squeeze it into the whites.
At Easter I get tiny paint brushes and the kids and I paint the egg whites with food coloring.

I have found that it is a bad experiment to add red food coloring to the yolks, thinking you can make orange deviled eggs. You can’t. They are still yellow, only with red streaks in them. They look like a sick cat crapped in the deviled eggs.

Any deviled egg stories to share?

MIracle Whip is *not mayo.*

My filling is egg yolks, Best Foods mayo, and curry powder, fill whites, and then a light dusting of paprika.

That’s it.

I like the tangy taste of Miracle Whip!

I add pickle juice instead of vinegar and lemon juice.

Yolks, Best Foods or Hellman’s mayo, onions finely chopped, Dijon mustard, cayenne pepper (careful not too much) and Italian seasoning mix. I use a freezer bag to pipe it into whites. Let set in frig for two or more hours. Paprika dusted before serving.

Miracle Whip is a sauce condiment manufactured by Kraft Foods and sold throughout the United States and Canada. Or salad dressing made with mayo and thinned out with liquid dressings.

I don’t care! I like the tangy taste of Miracle Whip!

@KNOWITALL, if I have pickle juice I do prefer that. But I never have pickles, unless I’m planning on making potato salad.

@Tropical_Willie, I used to use the freezer bags, but what do you do with it when you’re done? Throw it in the landfill, where it never decomposes. :/.
The Italian seasoning mix sounds interesting. Is the Italian seasoning the kind in a packet, or is it in a spice jar?

I, uh.. I just eat the egg.

I can’t handle the taste of mayonnaise or Miracle Whip, so the yokes are mixed with plain yogurt and mustard. Once reinserted, they get a sprinkling of paprika.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yogurt…that’s a thought.

I’m working on my egg yolk, mayo, mustard + paprika recipe. Trying to get the proportions right.

I have some of that on hand!

I wish we could burn our trash.

Egg yolks, real mayo (No Miracle Whip!), and mustard as the base. Sometimes this is all I use, but sometimes I will add one or more of the following ingredients:

Chopped olives (regular black, or kalamata, or green)
Dried dill weed
Pickle relish
Curry powder
Smoked paprika
Chopped fresh basil
Chopped fresh cilantro
Chopped green onion, or chives
Chopped radishes
Pimentos

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE TANGY TASTE OF MIRACLE WHIP?? I LOVE THE TANGY TASTE OF MIRACLE WHIP!

It tastes foul to me, and has a weird smell that reacts with my gag reflex : (

It tastes sugary to me too, which is very off-putting.

LOL! I love Miracle Whip!

I also add a pinch of white sugar to my deviled eggs.

I don’t generally like sweet flavors, when something is supposed to be savory. One of my friends makes a coleslaw with sugar, that is almost inedible to me.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I can understand that. I hate texture in things that are supposed to be smooth, like nuts in the ice cream or veggies in the jello, or even fruit in the jello. Yuck.
However, the only coleslaw I like is KFC and it’s really sweet. They have some pretty good coleslaw and so does Long John Silvers which is also sweet.

I like KFC cole slaw, too, @Dutchess_III. I also like that it’s finely chopped, and not long pieces.

Helmann’s Mayo, touch of mustard (yellow or deli), mix with yolks till smooth. Takes quite a bit of mayo, I do it by feel and taste. When the yolks are the smoothness I like it’s the right amount.

Yolk mixture back into the half eggs and a little paprika on top.

People request my deviled eggs for parties. I think the secret is not adding extra ingredients.
