Nope, I consider it a lucky day simply because many other people consider it an unlucky day. If everyone expects Friday the 13th to be unlucky, that leaves the big pool of luck available for the taking! :)

It is a lucky day for me too.

Supersticious???

No.

Many of my family members have passed away on the 13th. Not always a Friday but I am cautious none the less.

luck does not exist, it is a artificial construct created by humans to describe patterns where no patterns exist. Simply a case of false positives. But if you are particularly worried about it, just remember, don’t walk under a black cat or let a ladder cross your path.

And don’t break any mirrors!

OK, I don’t believe in that stuff. If you believe in things you don’t understand, then you suffer, as a great man once said.

I have to admit, though, age 13 was a pretty hinky year for me!

I’m hoping for some super luck tomorrow!

I’m really not supersticious, but if something bad does happen on the 13th, it makes me think about it for a moment.
Friday the 13th just gives me another reason to watch a scary movie. Love scary movies!

There’s a Friday the 13th next month, too. Lucky us!

Yeah I’m superstitious that Jason is going to come up behind me and I won’t hear the music in time!

Having survived unscathed somewhere between 57 and 171 in my lifetime, no.

I used to be really superstitious about Friday the 13th when I was young. Then I realized that it’s all a mental state and that nothing supernatural is happening.

However I stopped believing that prayer was having a conversation with God at an even earlier age.

No superstition here. A black cat startled me and caused me to drop a mirror as I was walking under a ladder this morning. Everything is still okay at this point. As far as tomorrow is concerned, all bets are off.

@Bluefreedom setting yorself up good, aren’t you??? Dodge the cracks in the sidewalk.

@Bluefreedom – Yeah, no need to drag your poor mother into the maelstrom!

I’m counting on it being a good day.

Bad things happen any day of the year, if they happen to occur on Friday the 13th then you just happen to remember it longer. I bet if you could find a bunch of people that have “bad luck” on say December 3rd, but stories aren’t passed around about that particular day.

No, and actually my boyfriend and I are having our Valentine’s Day celebration tomorrow rather than on the 14th! Mostly because we couldn’t get dinner reservation on the 14th!

I’m not but I always get a kick out of trying to freak other people out!

Not a bit. Nor superstitious neither. There is absolutely no connection between the day counting system that we happen to use in Western culture and events in people’s lives.

The notion of Friday the 13th as an unlucky day hasn’t even been around that long, only since the 1800s. And 13 got its reputation as a cursed number just because there were 13 at table at the Last Supper (and presumably also all the other times that Jesus dined with his disciples and nobody was doing any betraying). There are some equally logical associations and explanations coming out of a few other traditions, as noted here. In contrast, in some cultures 13 is a lucky number.

There are three Friday the 13ths this year. Tomorrow, one in March, and one in November. What I think is cool is that my birthday, Halloween, and the Fourth of July always fall on the same day. If one is on a Friday, then they are all on a Friday. Am I lucky or what?

Jeruba's avatar

Because the number of days per month is regular in all months but one, certain months begin on the same day as each other every year. In a non-Leap Year, February and March always start on the same day because February comes out even at four weeks. So it stands to reason that events in certain months consistently fall on the same days relative to one noather. I made a pretty good parlor trick of this fact when I was about seven or eight by pretending to mind-read the dates on the calendar in the second half of the year, given the first. All I’d actually done was memorize the matching months.

i don’t really believe in bad luck, but tomorrow i’m supposed to be going to a fair. and now i’m kind of worried. it’s kind of stupid i guess, but like i just realized it and, well, i’ve never been that trusting of most of the carnies to begin with…
