If you were a girl, would you rather have a song written to you, or have a wonderful painting made for you?

Asked by haze014 (127points) November 29th, 2009

I’m beginning to think that, perhaps, writing a song for a girl is not as effective as it once was. I would like to go a bit out of the norm and try another method of, er, conquest. :P

song, you can’t go wrong with it, it requires thought and hearing how someone feels about u is better than a painting because paintings can be interpreted in too many different ways, that way you don’t have to deal with misunderstandings etc. also its really hot when a guy sings so you should preform it too!

jonsblond's avatar

I am a girl and I would prefer a song. I love it when my husband sings a song while playing his guitar. If it was meant for me….even better.

rangerr's avatar

I’m a girl.
If it’s someone I’m not in a relationship with or isn’t family, I’d prefer a song.
But I’ve gotten a few paintings from family members who paint and an ex drew me a fantastic picture that I still have framed.
It depends on my feelings towards the person.. if it’s not someone I’m incredibly close to, I’d be a little unsure of how to interpret a painting.

Write me a song though, and you’ll have my heart.

haze014's avatar

Wow, you guys (gals) are great. :P
I’ll keep that in mind then. Someone’s getting a new song soon. :D

sjmc1989's avatar

I am a Girl. I definitely go with the song! I had an ex that played guitar and sang, he really didn’t write music but he played songs that I loved and would put my name into the song. That made me fall in love right then and there. Also who ever the girl is she must be pretty lucky! I have no one to play me songs anymore :(

faye's avatar

I’m a girl [well was] and I would far prefer a painting any day.

haze014's avatar

@sjmc1989 : Aww, thanks. :P
And don’t worry, your songwriter will come. :D

@faye : “was”? What do you mean?
And why would you prefer a painting?

galileogirl's avatar

I am a girl and a song about me has a better chance of survival than a painting of me.

sjmc1989's avatar

@haze014 Your very welcome. Hopefully he will find me :) Good Luck! Oh yes and welcome to Fluther!

haze014's avatar

@galileogirl : Well I didn’t say a painting of the girl. I meant a painting of something I know she would be interested in.

@sjmc1989 Awww, thanks again! :)
It’s pretty legit in here, hehe.

sjmc1989's avatar

@haze014 Yes come to our side! We are pretty Awesome people :D

jonsblond's avatar

If you can make an image of me out of playdough….. I just don’t know what I would do! ;)

haze014's avatar

@jonsblond :D
How exact would it have to be?

jonsblond's avatar

@haze014 Big on the top and small on the bottom, with a perty smile in between. :P

faye's avatar

@haze014 I just meant I am a fully mature woman now!! I understood it to be a painting of other than me. And because I love paintings

arnbev959's avatar

I am not a girl.

I’d imagine a lot of it depends on what your talents are. If you’re able to write her a song, go for it. But if you are more talented at visual art, go with that.

Or write her a poem.

(Personally, if I were a girl, I’d prefer a painting.)

haze014's avatar

@jonsblond Consider it done. :P
@faye Ah!!
I assumed wrongly!
Yes, paintings are great. :P
@petethepothead I am quite adept at both.. Not to brag, of course. :)
I think I would be a bit more proficient with the song though. That’s what’s going down, for now. :D

deni's avatar

why not both, huh? huh? jk…depends what the painting was of. and how it was done. i like some paintings a lot. others, not so much. but thats true for everything. so i think i’d prefer a song. plus, him singing to me? come on. i’m melting just thinking of it. :’)

haze014's avatar

@deni I just wanted to see which would be more.. preferable!
If you had to choose between the two!
Hehe, what song would you like to have sung for you?
A cover, or an original?
:D
Also, do you know anything about chord progressions?
I hope you do. :P

deni's avatar

@haze014 Haha, I do not, sadly. Now let me see. if i had to choose between the two, a song. and then it gets tougher from there…it would be really really really really really meaningful if he WROTE me a song but damn i dont know thats a lot to ask. but…if he sang me michael jackson’s “bad”, i’d probably faint. WAIT. what would get me is if he sang Billie Jean to me AND KNEW THE DANCE THAT WENT WITH IT…............................................

haze014's avatar

@deni Do you have any idea how hard it would be to play guitar, sing, and moonwalk ALL AT THE SAME TIME?
:O

deni's avatar

@haze014 i imagine it would be pretty hard. you could cheat and put the music on but sing it and do the dance…that is quite do able. one of my goals for the next year or so is to learn that dance from beginning to end, including the moonwalk. chimona!

haze014's avatar

@deni Ooof, good luck with that.
:P
Tell me how it goes?
:D

DominicX's avatar

Well it’s kind of hard for me to answer this because my boyfriend is such an amazing artist (drawing and painting) that I would choose a painting from him over anything else any day.

haze014's avatar

@DominicX What style of art does he mostly do?
I love a lot of the abstract rendition of everyday things.

DominicX's avatar

@haze014

It’s mostly abstract; a lot of it is pretty weird but it’s often a rendition of something normal as opposed to pure abstraction. He also does a lot of digital art like this.

Tink's avatar

I’m a girl. I would choose a painting/drawing rather than a song. I do like music but I think some visual sort of art would be better, it might because I’m into that sort of stuff. I would like something made by the guys creativity and imagination.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I am a girl. Well, I’m a woman with a girl’s eyes, or summat like that.

Anyway.

I know, I know, Daryl Hall broke up with Sarah Allen in 2001. I know. But in 1974–75, he wrote Sara Smile for her, a stone cold classic, and he actually wrote another song for her in 1973 that wasn’t so well known, Las Vegas Turnaround, which was about how he’d met her on a plane trip to LA.

I be tickled pink if a man wrote a song like Sara Smile because he was in love with me! Probably because I sing, so I lean more towards that form. Although if someone painted me like Sargent’s Madame X, sign me up.

jrpowell's avatar

I didn’t read the whole question. You lost me at “conquest.”

I would go with a painting. It will last longer.

FishGutsDale's avatar

I can’t sing OR paint…I guess i’m destined not to impress the ladies.

gemiwing's avatar

I would prefer a painting because if it sucks I don’t have to sit and pretend to listen to it for hours on end. brutal yet honest

Plus having someone sit and sing to me always felt like they were trying too hard. Or that they were in college sitting on the green, trying to get laid because they were ‘sensitive’.

janbb's avatar

Aww – do I have to choose?

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

I would choose a painting. When I was younger I had a song written and sang to me by a guy I was dating. It was awkward for me. He was an awful singer. I have never been given a painting before. I think it’d get more use. I could hang it up in my house and display it. A song would eventually get overplayed and old for me.

Cupcake's avatar

I would prefer a painting… assuming that I found it visually pleasing. It would last longer and I would think of my love every time I gazed upon it.

That being said, if you’re better at a song… do that. Live. But also have a recorded CD that she can play whenever she would like.

LC_Beta's avatar

Someone special wrote me a song once, and recorded a whole CD of himself singing and playing piano for me. Best present I’ve ever received, hands down. Another someone special wrote me a long poem which he made into a book with pictures of us, and that was very, very special to me as well. Creative presents are the best. Whatever you do for your girl, I’m sure she’ll appreciate the effort. :)

galileogirl's avatar

@haze014 Of course the subject I am most interested in is…ME!

Allie's avatar

I’d choose a painting. I could hang it somewhere where I would be able to see it while I was doing my daily things. A song you have to play.. a painting you can just glimpse and appreciate. (If that makes sense.)

haze014's avatar

Wow, thanks.
:)

I’d say it’s about 50/50…
I should do both.
:D

StephK's avatar

Song! Unless you were a really good painter.
I don’t want to look at it 10 years down the road and think, “was I that fat/guady/geeky/insert negative adjective here?”

haze014's avatar

@StephK :D
I know!!!
No, I’d make a really good painting, if any.
:P

veronasgirl's avatar

I have no preference, both a painting and a song created for me by a man is an incredible gesture. It is romantic and thoughtful and any man who takes his time to do something like that is a catch.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

I think they would both be awesome, but I think I’m leaning a little more toward a painting.

Narl's avatar

Song, for sure! Good luck @haze014

haze014's avatar

@Narl Thank you!
:)

Gokey's avatar

I would be honored to have either. Hm, but if I have to narrow it down to just one I would definitely prefer a song over a picture. Even if my boyfriend is a lousy singer. Words have the ability to move me more than images, and that’s a horrible thing to say coming from a design student.

haze014's avatar

@Gokey :O
Maybe you should become a music major, like me.
:P
