What decade would you say may have been the most evocative to have spent your teenage years?

Asked by ucme (50047points) March 28th, 2010

You may feel the era you spent as a teenager was perfect for you,or is there another time when you think being in your teens would have been more fascinating, more adventurous, than when you actually were. What were the sights, sounds & overall flavour of a particular decade that would sway you in this direction?

Luckily for me, the ‘60s.

Right now! I would love to grow up in this super awesome age of technology. The 80’s were great…don’t get me wrong – but I LOVE the internet and my iphone!

Probably the early 1960s. I’m sure I would’ve gone down South and gotten my fool self killed registering voters and the like.

What @aprilsimnel and @dpworkin said. The 60’s would have been the best time imo. Unfortunately, I had the 00’s.

My own decade for the teenage years: the 60s.

I am a product of the 70’s, the sex, drugs & rock-n-roll era. lol

Lots of 60’s influence still overlapping by far, so I’d say it was a great combo era.

Jeez, I think back on all the wild crap I did, it’s a wonder.

Shooting the rapids at midnight in a lake canoe on acid…...man….what WAS I thinkin’? lololololol

I loved growing up in the 60’s, but I would have felt completely at home in the 1920’s. I love the movies and music of that era.

60’s were cool, but the 70’s is where it’s at. For a teenager, the 70’s had it all, and there weren’t the repercussions then which we face for doing the same thing today.
No AIDS nor HIV. Syph and clap were curable. Hepatitis was also easily cured.
Pot came in wax baggies (plastic ones had not yet been invented) and they were four fingers-wide full of weed.
There was no crack, but only coke…and never try free-basing that stuff.
The music and live concerts of the 70’s were some of the most fantastic excursions upon which I have ever embarked.
And the cars were muscle, with radar detectors a distant dream yet waiting fruition. American cars were still hot, affordable and easily maintained in your own backyard or garage. Gas was 50 cents to eighty cents a gallon, although there was that embargo in 73 that caused a little ruckus. Also, you could reset the gas pump’s indicators back to zero with a flip of a switch on the side of the pump.
Women in the US were coming into their own as individuals and the movement for Equal Rights for women gained great headway in this decade.

Anyway, I vote the 70’s

Two thumbs up for the 60s. you could actually afford to take a girl on a date and have money left over. i never did have to sneak to acquire a beer. i was always tall for my age. being a drummer in four rock and roll bands, i never had to ask someone to buy me a beer. the beer was always “just there”. i started at the age of 14 and ended at the age of 21. you could say “i got it all out of my system”. i drank the free beer out of thirst, not out of addiction. ever tried to ask for glass of milk in a bar?

More good, valid songs came out of the 60s. to prove this, some of these songs are presently being rerecorded in the studios and this should tell us something.

Gasoline cost 23 cents a gallon and a Coke cost a nickel.

No problems with the illegals and everyone had a job that wanted a job.

I would have loved to have lived my teenage years during the eighties. I denno why, but I sorta have this thing for the fashion and styles of back then, the music and old blocky VHS and TV’s haha, and especially the horror movie rage from back then.. But I was too young at that point.

But I spent my teenage years throughout most of the nineties, and I don’t regret it.

Beavis and Butthead, Alanis Morisette…Final Fantasy on Super Nintendo haha. Mortal kombat, TLC, Pogs and Tamagtc…however you spell it haha. Also, Doc Martins. I still wear em to this day.

I loved being a teen in the 2000s (2004-now); I greatly enjoyed that time. I think being a gay teen in any other decade would’ve been worse, frankly. Although I would’ve loved to experience teen life in other decades (such as the ‘90s or the ‘20s even), I think the one I experienced my teenage years in (which I am still in) was fine.

I would have loved to be a teenager in the 1980’s. I love the movies, music, and aesthetic of that era. And I love old videogames and pinball. I think I was born in the wrong time.

I was a teenager in the late 1990’s to mid 2000’s. 2000–2010 was like a 10 year prison sentence for me, as far as culture went. I hate the music, hate most of the movies, and had no interest in pretending to be a thugged out asshole or guido douche.

The 60s worked for me too. We were so far-fucking-out, man!

@syzygy2600 – I was a teen in the 80s. I wish I’d been able to partake in more of the fun!

Ah, those 60’s!

I think the 70’s would have been good for me because then I could have been a part of that whole incredible disco experience.~

I’m sure the 70’s would’ve been great for me. Cutting class to go watch grindhouse movies and seeing Sabbath live when they were at their peak.
Yeah that would be great

Being a young teen in the early 60’s was perfect for me. My world centered on family, church, and many friendships. Juke boxes, the soda shop, theatre movies for a quarter, and cruising Main Street with the Beach Boys on the radio,on Friday and Saturday nights were the thing to do. Also drive-in movies, roller skating, and hayrides defined the time. I loved my small town in America and I saw it then as I remember it now, as a more respectful time.

I’m having a hard time deciding whether or not I like being a teenager right now or not. I totally enjoy all the technology.

I am a child of the sixties and enjoyed both the freedom and the excesses of those times, but have often felt that I would have enjoyed a more adventurous and romantic era. (No guys, romantic has nothing to do with chick flicks.) Possibly early Greek, the seventeen hundreds and those incredible voyages of discovery, or even the early twentieth century with a new discovery or invention every week or so. A time of enthusiasm and excitement, of adventure and discovery, a time long before the human race descended into self-serving near anarchy as is happening now.
