I remember being PM’d by @Allie so i wouldn’t use text-speak (turns out it wasn’t me), @TitsMcGhee posting about steak and blowjob day, @Shilolo and i discussing the merits of medicated IUD’s on a thread and feeling all warm and fuzy when i first got lurve.

Unfortunately, I deleted my first account, so a lot of those memories are forgotten. I just remember coming in the midst of wis.dm-themed questions and the whole war that was going on. I remember my first question was about whether or not you would be disappointed if your child was gay. I also remember someone telling me they liked my avatar (picture of me in Vegas with my sis). I remember being like the only former wis.dmer who hadn’t had one of their questions modded (didn’t get one modded until way later—it was a poll question about music and the only question I’ve ever had modded). Other than that, I don’t remember much. Which is good; there’s a reason why I deleted that first account. :)

I pretty much knew right off the bat, though, that this site was better than the previous 2 Q&A sites I had spent so much time on.

I remember Dr C right off cause he speaks my language, has great stories about parasites and Shilolo and his stories of sepsis.

Several women reached out to me and made me feel at home when i first joined. I’m not going to name names for fear of leaving someone out, but they know who they are and they know (at least I hope they know) I lurve them!

Clair's avatar

Unlike @jonsblond, I’ll call these people out. I remember seeing @RedPowerLady and @gailcalled and @Augustlan and thinking…wow, these women are awesome! Then there was @eponymoushister who made me laugh, @darkscribe to be the wonderfully creepy uncle and @jonsblond to put the cherry on top and make me feel at home. Then lurve started coming in and I was hooked. I we were all connecting and that is such a unique thing on the internet! I loved the modding to keep things in line and loved and hated @shililo! Then I got the names down and that’s all she wrote!
It’s not so much that I lurve Fluther, (which I do!) it’s that I lurve you all! The best jellies anyone could ask for.
There are many I’m sure I left out. But as you come by, I’ll make sure I throw in a memory ;)

Oh! And @Jeruba and WTF, I always loved Jeruba’s wise and witty responses and her pictures were always so awesomely intimidating.

DominicX's avatar

Oh yeah, aviona was like my first friend here and she never comes by here anymore. :(

I remember being jumped all over for my first few questions because [as I know now] they were too personal. I’d never been on a Q&A site before, and I didn’t realize that these are close-knit communities where people care about the image they have built up, rather than a free-for-all let’s-be-frank-here type of deal. I had a minor tiff with Jeruba in one of them (she is now my jelly-buddy). Kayak8 and DarkScribe were the first I added to my fluther.

Oh, and I remember feeling relieved when I discovered that alive and bezdomnaya are fellow philosophers, because it’s a bit hard to understand how people trained in philosophy think unless you’ve been similarly trained. Zuma and the100thmonkey know what’s up, too.

My first memory of fluther is that it took me a while to learn how to navigate the site. It was confusing to me at first. I hung out at first with my old Askville friends. I remember blondsjon & jonsblond. I just kinda stayed away from them for a while…watching. I felt very intimidated by them at first. There’s one I stayed away from (still do) on account of her filthy mouth. I remember 90’s kid. I felt sorry for him. He was always getting a ration of shit from someone. We PM’d a lot. I miss him.

My first Fluther memory here

@jbfletcherfan Jonsblonde and Blondesjon were very intimidating to me too! Still loved em but it took a while.

I remember the debates and humor(?) of Jack Adams, whom I am nearly positive is still lurking here today. I also remember Asmo and Auggie and Pancake talk. And JP Punching his dick. And, of course, Astrochuckie’s awesome humor.

Dr_C's avatar

@Sueanne_Tremendous JP was dick punching other people… what you’re talking about is masturbation :P

rangerr's avatar

All the motherly women on here.
Made me feel all cozy inside.

Clair's avatar

OH! and @Dog and @casheroo! I luuuuuurve them! Casheroo was all motherly and cute and Dog is so fun and goofy and thoughtful.

I do not remember too much about Fluther till I came back from a 6 month break. I had just answered my first question on my return when I got a PM from @Harp welcoming me back. I was stunned that anyone remembered me.

Of course now there are a ton of Flutherites that I enjoy and learn from! I wont name them because I know I will forget some!

jsammons's avatar

I remember @Clair downloading the Fluther app on her iPod Touch. I watched her play on it and was intrigued by how well kept the site was. I hadn’t seen a site that was so close watched and friendly and mature, it was (a still is) very impressive!

@Clair played on here for about 5 months until she got me started one night last week (she was so excited about me joining that she logged off and made my account for me :P). Ever since I’ve joined, I’ve loved interacting with everyone and spent quite some time on here :P.

I’ve already made friends on here and enjoy all the time I spend debating, goofing off, or helping someone with a problem.

Thank you everyone for the laughs already and for the many to come :).

@Clair I’ll just go ahead and embarris you some, I love you nerd!

I remember a question about Milo, so I guess my first memory is of gailcalled. Then Allie. She welcomed me in the chat room.

SuperMouse's avatar

I won’t name all the flutherers who struck me at first because I know I will forget some. But I was drawn immediately to the sense of community and was addicted to gathering lurve right away.

My first memory of Fluther however, is asking a question under a name I didn’t think my sister would recognize and getting an answer from her wondering “is this you?” I guess I didn’t hide my identity very well.

Edited to add: I also have a great memory of being added to my very first Fluther. I was very proud when I noticed that I had been added to skfinkel’s fluther! It made me one very happy jelly!

Sueanne_Tremendous's avatar

to the contrary Dr. C, JP offered to punch himself in his dick on several occasions. Here is one link shows his offer: http://www.fluther.com/disc/20527/askvillans/

@ThePeanutGallery Nice to see you here. Welcome!
~Now get rid of that generic avatar! ;)

SuperMouse's avatar

@ThePeanutGallery great place to start!

chyna's avatar

JackAdams is my first memory. Not sure if that is good or bad.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@Clair Good…I’m glad you felt that way, too. I thought it was just me. But from talking to them both more on Facebook, they’re a great couple.

jrpowell's avatar

Uberbatman, Riser, and Delirium in the chat room. That was a huge summer timesuck.

skfinkel's avatar

@SuperMouse—It made me happy to read that!

buster's avatar

My original handle was Busterhymen. I got repeated emails to change it but I didn’t. After a couple of weeks Ben or Andrew changed it to Buster without my consent. Not that it bothered me.

Judi's avatar

I remember @deaddolly. We got along so well and I remember thinking that in person we would probably never have given each other a chance. I miss her!!
Also, living in the town where the Bible belt snaps and stings at the end, I really liked having the validation that I am not a crazy heathen for being progressive.
Thanks for being here guys!

chyna's avatar

@Judi deaddolly was one of my favorites also. I don’t know why, but we clicked too.

My first memory of Fluther is actually a bad one. Someone (I can’t remember their name) pm’d me after my very first question. They were basically ripping apart my question and talking down to me as if I were a moron. They tried to impress me with their large vocabulary. It turned me off but not enough to scare me away for good. I wish I could remember who the hell that person was…

Judi's avatar

@ItalianPrincess1217 ; did you delete it? maybe it’s still there!

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

@Judi Oh! I found it. This person is still actively on Fluther. I couldn’t possibly reveal their identity.

I remember when I was barely 3 yo and sitting in our living room around the radio waiting for the ventriloquist Edgar Bergan’s show to come on. We listenened in amazement every week because he made those dummies talk and we never saw his lips move. With a great crash our neighbor Ralph Kramden came running into the house. He had been doing research on his Apple I about how butterflies move and because of a typo he had fallen into a Q and A site. While most of the question were about how to tell if someone “likes” the questioner, two of the queries were earthshaking.

1 Since Thomas Dewey was elected President yesterday. has he done more damage than the Japanese did at Pearl Harbor?

2. Was it Martians or Muslims landing in New Jersey?

I have never seen so much excitement since, as all the adults soon came to blows over the Martian/Muslim question.

It was only last year after Thanksgiving that I’d started participating here. I’d come over from a link at MetaFilter a week before, but had only lurked.

The first Q I answered was about comedy and what made for good comedy. I was an improv student at the time, so I gave what I thought would be a good answer. When I returned to Fluther a couple hours later, I’d already gotten 5 GAs, which I didn’t really understand the point of then, but I thought, “Aw, I was helpful! Good.”

The first Jelly who’d made an impression was asmonet. She was so funny and snarky! And then whatthefluther, because he was so wise. It was those two who made me feel like this would be a good online hangout, and it has been!

Likeradar's avatar

Mine isn’t good. :( A still-frequent user was straight up mean to me when I answered a q, and I shrugged it off thinking that that’s the way people on here are and I probably wouldn’t be back a whole lot. Then other still-frequent users called the first person out on their nastiness and I figured most people on here were ok. :)

Clair's avatar

@Likeradar and @ItalianPrincess1217 I’m so sorry this happened to y’all. But it does happen. I so glad you stuck around though!

Actually, my first two memories both had to do with DrasticDreamer. First was her question regarding feeling ephemeral, or something. It was the first question I saw on here that caught my eye; immediately signed up for an account and (I think) answered.

Second, she PM’d me and welcomed me, with open arms. I got all fuzzy inside and stuff. We had a long correspondence on being awesome and shit. DrasticDreamer has a place in my heart.
