you don’t. you wait until you have more money. unless its an urgent date then skip the dinner and go to a movie or you could take her for a picnic, that you made and a walk in the park or something!

Where do you live?

I’m not so sure it can happen. Collect some funds and do it right.

Find something cheap that she likes to do. Free museum night, then hot dogs from a stand on the street. If you do it with panache, it’s likely to be a more memorable date than a $50 dinner.

You can: go to a museum, go to the flea market, go pick apples, bake something, tour a factory (for example, the Jelly Belly factory, or a beer bottling facility (which is usually a nominal entrance fee for free beer), ride bikes…

You can take her out, you just won’t get that far.

I keep thinking of that scene in Half-Baked…

You can do this fairly easily.

Be a “tourist” in your own town and hit the free museums, parks etc. Don’t make it look like you’re just doing something to be cheap – make it feel special and real. Steal flowers from someone’s garden, then have a picnic of some sort. Cooking something yourself, and eating it by the water somewhere is fun.

I’ve also done random things, like, threw my portable grill in the back of a car, grabbed a bottle of wine, drove somewhere with an amazing view and had a bbq with store-bought ingredients.

I think figbash is right, there’s no need to mention the fact that you only have $20. Make it seem like this is what you would do if you had infinite resources, and really believe that.

peedub's avatar

Are you near UCB? There’s tons of stuff to do around there with no money.

You might want to take a look around the room for something you could sell. $20 is really scraping the bottom.

take her to a popular local eatery usually they are a bit less price wise and instead of going to a movie or a concert after just take a long walk downtown or around a park and pack ice cream and cones from the store in a cooler in the car and you can have that for dessert on your walk…and if you want to get real fancy cook the whole meal and and pack it picnic style to eat somewhere else

Ucb? Where’s that. I live in the colorado springs area

UCB = University of California Berkley I believe

It depends on the person. I used to take my girlfriend to park with a blanket and sandwich stuff. I would run around and pick her flowers and she loved it. Eat and cuddle, eat and cuddle.

I knew a few girls that would never go for such a thing.

You might as well let her know upfront what she is getting into. Do you really want to have to fake everything?

gorillapaws's avatar

Or is it UCB = University of Colorado Boulder?

skeh0138's avatar

Sorry. it’s a long-form improv and sketch theatre in NYC, just flag my as being totally useless.

Pasta: $0.69
Sauce: $1.99
Tealights: $2.99
Leaves you $14.33 for a killer bottle of wine.

gorillapaws's avatar

@ nikipedia, you forgot the condoms.

cwilbur's avatar

@gorillapaws: with 69-cent pasta and $2 pasta sauce, he’s not going to need them.

(Great quote from a friend of mine, who’s been madly in love with an Italian man for eight years now: “Seduction begins with the appetizer course.”)

I think the best dates are often those where you spend very little money (or rather, have very little money to spend) because it forces you to think creatively. Your goal should be to make an impression. This girl has been on (or will eventually go on) tons of dates that consist of dinner and a movie or some bland variation thereof. You have the perfect opportunity to make her think back years from now, I wonder how he’s doing. Or, if you do it really well, I’m so lucky I found him.

Be creative. You’re in CO—you’ve got the entire Rocky Mountain range as an aphrodisiac. Get to it!

Go play put put it’s like $6 a person and you even have leftover for the junk food at the snack counter

gorillapaws's avatar

I have seen put-put ruin relationships though, so please be careful…

peedub's avatar

Is this Borat put-put, or mini-golf?

Picnic in a special place. Make sure you have the homemade paper rose. Choose a different type of food not something commonplace. The romantic thoughts always work for me even better than the high dollar nights. Just remember to be creative and get ready for the hard work. I promise it will payoff.

I took a girl on a picinic at the beach one time. Did the old pb&j routine. I was only sixteen, but it worked like a charm. :)

do what my boyfriend does… He doesn’t have a job or much money haha… He will surprise me unexpectedly and drag me off to nearby high school. Like a gentleman he finds a easy spot to get on the roof and he helps me up. He will bring a backpack with a blanket, drinks, and food. Then we will enjoy an evening alone on a high roof watching the sunset!!!

I do this all the time and girls love it! You take a girl out longboarding, cook her dinner yourself (include her), and watch a movie she would like. It’s active, close, and you can get to know her!
