This is crossing the line. I understand that you need advertisements.

This is just bad and you know it.

Is there a question here? Did I miss something? Wouldn’t a flag have worked?

Not_the_CIA's avatar

@JilltheTooth – No that wouldn’t work. It would be ignored. This should be public.

It gets worse.

Well, there’s no link now, so I guess it worked for someone, and I don’t understand why “it get’s worse” with a question about games. Okay, it’s early and I’m a little off my game cuz I’m sick, but my IQ is usually up to the task of figuring this stuff out…

Well, when I clicked the link before, it came up the game Q. Now it’s a list of something. Serious confusion.

Arbornaut's avatar

what the fuck? this is just some shit about some cookies. useless. like a cat

BarnacleBill's avatar

@Not_the_CIA, is it still happening? I can’t get it to happen on my computer.

Not_the_CIA's avatar

@JilltheTooth – That is because you are logged in.

@Arbornaut – It is more than that. There are some shady companies on that list.

Arbornaut's avatar

yeah, totally lost.

Cruiser's avatar

@Not_the_CIA I guess you didn’t get the memo that your Jelly soul has been sold to the highest bidder.

BarnacleBill's avatar

I couldn’t reproduce the error even not logged in, which would seem to indicate that a difference in settings would be at play.

Do you have your Flash Storage Settings cleaned out?

JilltheTooth's avatar

I feel like I’ve stepped into a Beckett play.

Not_the_CIA's avatar

@BarnacleBill – Disable what you use to block ads.

BarnacleBill's avatar

The only thing I do is not allow PIEs to be stored on my computer.

I noticed that too…really sad and pathetic….If they are going to use us like that..we should get Lurve points everytime someone clicks on a link provided in our answer/question keywords….

For it to work for me I logged out…refreshed the site…ie: clicking on the Fluther.com link at the top right…then went to a question…any question….(works on my phone and home pc)

coffeenut's avatar

Lol…..My above answer has 2 keyword links….“Lurve points” and ”Home pc”

That really does look terrible @Not_the_CIA . Why would new members join if that’s what they see?

AUGGGIEEE???

iamthemob's avatar

I’m really confused – what has happened? What are these images?

Jude's avatar

I’m hatin’ that.

I’m checking into this, folks. Might be a day or so before I have an answer for you, but I’ll get back to you when I do.

PS: @Not_the_CIA If you had sent an email via the “contact” button, I’d have done the same thing and checked it out for you.

janbb's avatar

Thanks @augustlan !

(For everyone who doesn’t see it, if you log out, there are pop-up ads that come from links within posts somehow. It’s really off-putting.)

augustlan's avatar

Ok, I got an update on this. We’re experimenting with different types of ads at the moment to help pay the bills. They may or may not stay the way they are, and/or we may make adjustments as to who will see them (depending on what site they’re coming from). Of course, as long as you’re a logged in member, you won’t see them at all (as always).

If you see specific examples of anything that seems ‘shady’, please let us know about it by using the ‘contact’ button and we’ll look into it. We certainly don’t want shady!

MissAnthrope's avatar

Well, anyone who wants to thank me can most certainly send some Mrs. Fields my way. Just sayin’.

Arbornaut's avatar

Oh…. I see now…. Good’o

bob_'s avatar

Eh, I could care less. If people don’t like to see the ads, they can simply log in. Bills gotta get paid.

KatawaGrey's avatar

Yeah, this is actually some kind of virus. This happens to me all the time on other sites. It’s not just fluther. :(

JilltheTooth's avatar

ooooh, right now @bob_ ‘s lurve score is 11111. Cool.

Not_the_CIA's avatar

This just started today. Links to imgur and some other sites are being redirected through http://redirectingat.com which seems to be affiliated with skimresources

This is new. Like 12 hours new. http://i.imgur.com/5w1Tq.png. I guess it is great the site is still being worked on. It is a bit of a shame the only work being done is to add ads.

JilltheTooth's avatar

If it keeps Auggie employed somehow, it’s not all bad, IMO.

augustlan's avatar

Thanks, @JilltheTooth. I sure hope I’m not the sole reason for the new ads, though.

Not_the_CIA's avatar

@JilltheTooth – I agree. I have had my problems with Lisa and I would love for her to be able to keep her job(I’m not that much of a dick(toogate)). But I doubt that is the motivation. I hope I am wrong but it feels like they are grabbing every cent before closing the doors.

Five employees have new paychecks. It is Lisa and servers now. Why the squeeze for new revenue?

Not_the_CIA's avatar

@augustlan – I have used the contact button to send in major security flaws that allowed you to log in as another user if they visited your profile. Week after week and it was ignored. Then a magnificent bastard (you know who you are) drove the point home.

Contact button did nothing for a major problem. This is minor in comparison.

augustlan's avatar

@Not_the_CIA I remember that, and I definitely forwarded it to the guys at that time. Can’t say why it wasn’t handled promptly, as I don’t know what else was going on during that, but I’ll definitely do my part. :)

Not_the_CIA's avatar

@augustlan – I am not blaming you. I blame Ben and Andrew.
