What was the name of this 90s TV show about Appalachia?

Asked by laureth (27199points) June 19th, 2011

This (non-fictional) show centered around a male host who would travel throughout the Appalachian region of the United States. Each episode featured different traditional artisans and craftsmen, interesting characters, regional festivals, or obscure bits of history. It reminded me very much of the Foxfire books that way. There were maybe 3–4 short vignettes per episode.

I found this show only in reruns in (circa) 1997, so there’s reason to believe it may be somewhat older than that. It was on cable, but I don’t remember what channel. Does this sound familiar?

Thanks!

Sounds like it could be an Appalshop production.

The Heartland series matches the description.

Definitely sounds like The Heartland Series. I used to watch it all the time as a kid.

I love the Foxfire books, too.
