Don’t waste your money (unless you can’t open a bank account).. Your average bank checking account offers a free debit card that has no monthly fees or any other surcharge (unless of course your terribly unorganized and continue to live beyond your means creating overdraft).. Applying for and acquiring a prepaid debit card from anyone other than your bank institution is a gross waste of money. Most charge per month in order to record the buys that you’ve already paid for (with the money deposited) You could do this yourself with a simple check register.

What I understand is that people who don’t want to carry cash to purchase, but don’t want to use credit cards as well, prefer to use prepaid debit cards. Usually, banks where you have a savings or checking account can issue the prepaid debit card. My friend said she prefer this type of card because she can limit her expenditures.
