Do you think you've ever run into a Jelly on the street?

Asked by sliceswiththings (11723points) July 30th, 2011

I sometimes wonder if there are Jellies amongst me who I obviously can’t identify. Think you’ve ever walked by one in the supermarket? Have you suspected it due to someone’s appearance, overheard conversations, etc?

When I go on Fluther on a library I always wonder if someone will recognize the screen, or someone else’s login credentials will be there when I open it.

No, not where I live.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Doubtful. There are only a few jellies that live in my area, and they don’t live close enough that we might see each other in the store. It would be highly unlikely.

wundayatta's avatar

I’ve not “run into” one. But then, I’ve never run into anyone.

We are talking about auto accidents, aren’t we?

rebbel's avatar

@sliceswiththings I think you are not talking about only Jellies that registered themselves but anybody who uses Fluther, also people who lurk or read only members?

Berserker's avatar

I highly doubt it. Any of yall situated in Québec?

filmfann's avatar

I haven’t met anyone here who I didn’t already know.
Seems like a good reason to buy a T-shirt

RedPowerLady lives here. I could have bumped into her at the 7/11. Eugene is pretty small.

As far as I am aware, there are no other Flutherites who live in the same city as me.

You guys saying unlikely should all reconsider, it’s far more likely than you think, specially if you account for peoples ages and miles traveled.

I live on a small island in the Mediterranean sea, about 70 miles end to end, yet I once recieved a PM from another user, that made it blatantly clear that they had been in my very own town once. I could have walked past that person on my way to work, or they could have walked past me one day as I made a sand castle on the beach.

Could you bump in to a fellow jelly? probable but unlikely. Could you have ever bumped in to a now fellow jelly duiring the course of your life? plausible.

Take in to consideration all the time, all the miles, all the not so regular users, and who knows.

Well, this coach passed me the other day full of smiling passengers. It had something written on the side, I believe it said…..Bide a wee rest home for the permanently bewildered.
Just got me thinking, that’s all i’m saying ;¬}

Highly unlikely. There are only 33,000 residents in the county I live in. There was one Flutherite who is no longer with us who lives within 45 miles of me. He was familiar with the area I lived in due to his travels on his motorcycle. Besides my husband and a few friends we know who have joined the site, I doubt I will ever run into a jelly any time soon.

Bellatrix's avatar

I would say no. Apart from @Rooey, is anyone else in Queensland?

Cruiser's avatar

I think it highly unlikely as even living in and around a big city like Chicago I have not seen many other Jellies call Chi Town home.

I think probably pied_pfeffer and I have crossed paths and didn’t know it. We live close to each other, I shop in the supermarkets in her town, we shop in the same stores and probaby eat in the same restaurants.

As for whether I have been talking to someone and had the feeling they were part of the collective, I haven’t, but I have talked to people who I think should be on fluther.

I could have walked past @ETpro or @JohnnyCeltics and not known – as they’re from Boston also.

There may be others. I wouldn’t know. I’d love meet a jelly face to face though.

lillycoyote's avatar

I spent a wonderful afternoon with a jelly just yesterday. First time I’ve met someone from fluther.

FutureMemory's avatar

I’m not aware of any that live in between The Bay and LA, so no.

Just a couple days ago, I passed someone in a local shopping area that looked a lot like an ex-Jelly, who does live in a different city in the same state as me, but I thought it too unlikely to make a fool of myself by going up and asking, “Hey, I know this is a weird question, but are you _____ from Fluther?”

sliceswiththings's avatar

How do people know where everyone’s from? I assume I’m always the only one in my town on here, but if I’m on who know who else could be.

Anyone else on Cape Cod?

FutureMemory's avatar

@sliceswiththings How do people know where everyone’s from?

It’s a personal detail that usually comes up after awhile.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

Yup! @JLeslie and I have probably been two Jelly ships passing each other while about town. Girl, we need to either get Fluther t-shirts to wear in public or just cheat and schedule a lunch date.

@sliceswiththings In addition to @FutureMemory‘s explanation as to how we know who is where, some Jellies have offered up their location to @johnpowell, who is the keeper of The Unofficial Fluther Map. Note that it does not include everyone, since some people may not be comfortable with the thought. Also, there are a few still listed that are no longer members.

JLeslie's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer Haha. Sure. I don’t remember if I asked you if you go to the rec center? I am there 4 or 5 times a week for zumba or water aerobics. If you don’t belong and ever want to try it, I’ll bring you in as a guest :).

@Bellatrix – we are probably moving back to Rainbow when our lease is up here. Then we will practically be neighbors!

Bellatrix's avatar

I have never been to Rainbow Beach… I really must go there. Supposed to be absolutely beautiful. lol@neigbours .. by Queensland standards for sure @rooeytoo!! Just down the road!

rooeytoo's avatar

My gosh you are in Brisbane and have never been to Rainbow! It is without a doubt the most naturally beach within a lot of k! Makes Noosa look sad, actually Noosa is like a shopping mall with a bit of sand out back. Definitely take a trip to Rainbow, rent a place for the weekend. If your kids like the beach or are surfers they will love it. You can rent a jeep, take the top off and drive the beach or catch the ferry over to Fraser and drive the beach there. See real dingos, not feral dog hybrids. Stop to fish or swim anywhere you want. It is absolutely one of my favorite places in Australia!

harple's avatar

No, but I bet I’ve driven past one in a car at some point… (I frequently drive all over the uk…)
