Have you been experiencing no notification on "Activity for You", and "New Activity"?

Asked by flo (13313points) October 10th, 2011

In the last 2 weeks or so, there has been 3 occassions where there had been new responses to the questions I’m following but no notification of them. The last one was this one
I wrote to one moderators but there is no evidence of that either.

I seem to be getting all the new activity notifications that I should.

Does the status button in that question show “Stop Following”?
Is the question in your “Activity You’re Following” folder?

flo's avatar

I haven’t been looking at the “stop following”, but yes they are in the “Questions you’re following” folder.
Sometimes I need to get a permalink from one of those OPs or I need to add to my answer, and that is how I find out there have been new response/s.

I haven’t heard from anyone else that they’re having this problem. The only thing I can think of is that you’re going to the question directly, before checking your “Activity for you” page. That is to say, it is in “Activity for you”, but before you’ve checked that, you’ve already gone to the question. Once you go to the question, it disappears from “Activity for you” because it knows you’ve already seen it. Could this be the case?

Also, you won’t find any indication of PMs you’ve sent, only those you’ve received. I can check for you, and make sure you actually sent the PM you’re talking about, but there’s no way for you to check yourself.

I have not had any problems with it at all. And I’m in the lowliest, most limited category in the Flutherverse. The ill- regarded second class citizen known as “iPhone user”. We can’t even flag crap.

I have actually been noticing a problem, now that you mention it, with “Activity for You” lately, comments on questions that aren’t showing up. I wasn’t sure if it was a real issue or that I just wasn’t paying attention somehow. I think I have noticed it on the occasions that I check “See all your lurve” and notice a comment or response that didn’t show up in “Activity for You.”

@flo sometimes you need to wait a bit before getting the notification. I had that problem several times but it’s mainly because I was to eager to check some replies at a few questions. Oh and sometimes you need to refresh your page.

Oh yes. All the time. The latest TJBM question is always messed up, and often it disappears from my “new activity” list altogether. It’s very frustrating. When I finally get the notification (if I ever do), there are often 20 or more “new” responses. Sometimes I even have to do a search to find it again.

“The latest TJBM question is always messed up, and often it disappears from my “new activity” list altogether.”

I’m going to follow that one to see if it happens to me too.

Brian1946's avatar

I just got a notification from the first post after I followed the question.

snowberry's avatar

@Brian1946 Yes, sometimes my notifications are spot on. Other times, not so you’d notice it.

I haven’t been getting Meta questions in my “just for you” lately.

flo's avatar

@augustlan My PM page shows my part of the conversation as well as the people I’m PMing when I click on “reply”.I see my message to you, and everybodys else I PMed. But not the moderator I mentioned in the message I sent you through “contact”.

If I use “contact” instead of “moderators” I never see any evidence of my message.

flo's avatar

@Hibernate it is the new answers other people posted that we’re talking about right? Some of them would be there for a day or so, but wouldn’t get up to the New Activity list.

Somtimes I notice after several days that I stopped getting notification, and then I do the search, post something on the question again, and then I get the notifications again…for a while, until it happens again.

Regarding PM’s, some of the ones I have sent have just plain disappeared, and unfortunately they are sometimes ones that contained information I wanted to refer back to, and I have to do the research again because it’s gone. No, I do not normally delete my PM’s.

On the bright side, at least this time these things aren’t lurve!

I’ll let the guys know that something seems wonky with notifications. Thanks for letting us know, guys!

@snowberry If your PMs disappear, it may be that the receiver has deleted them. (We can’t delete PMs that we send, only those we receive.)

augustlan's avatar

I received word today that this bug has been fixed. Please let me know if anyone is still having a problem. Thanks!

flo's avatar

@augustlan thanks. (Added: On Friday,) I got I a new response notification for ’‘Do we still need libraries’’ and I saw that I didn’t get one for the last @blueiiznh’s posting. http://www.fluther.com/122266/do-we-still-need-libraries/#quip2137747 from 2 months ago.
Thanks for your attention.

@augustlan
I meant to ask you re:
Also, you won’t find any indication of PMs you’ve sent, only those you’ve received.”
Is it designed that way?

augustlan's avatar

@flo I don’t know if it was purposeful, but that is the design. The only way you can see the PMs you send is when you click on “reply” to a PM someone sent you, or if you are looking at their profile, you can see very recent ones you’ve sent to that person. That is, of course, in the event that the receiver hasn’t deleted your PM.

flo's avatar

@augustlan I can see my PM dialogues with everyone, in chronological order.

The other thing is if I click on other people’s avatar, the avatars of their “you’re following” are not alphabetical. Mine is alphabetical (except for the 1st one and the last one). How interesting is that? I’m not complaining but it is hard to understand sometimes.

Brian1946's avatar

@flo

“if I click on other people’s avatar, the avatars of their “you’re following” are not alphabetical.”

I noticed that too. Also, the order of those avatars seems to get shuffled every time I to that page.

augustlan's avatar

I think that random shuffling is on purpose. Maybe to expose us to more members we might like to follow?

flo's avatar

Interesting. By the way, Mine is alphabetical (except for the 1st one and the last one I mean the first profile page of the, not the second page (when you click “See all…”)

flo's avatar

Last 3 or 4 days ago, (Thursday and Friday) ago my last 2 OPs did not get up on the New Activity column, and my “Activity for you” didn’t change, eventhough I had new responses.

augustlan's avatar

@flo Checking on it. Thanks for letting me know!

flo's avatar

@augustlan thank you, I’m beginning to think it is me. My last question… I’m haunted or something

augustlan's avatar

Well it is Halloween. Boo! :P

flo's avatar

@augustlan yeah Haloween, is it getting bigger or it is my imagination?
By the way, how old are the oldest going trick or treating? I hear somewhere they had to pass a law, that it should just be children who go trick or treating, no adults.
