Could electric sheep cause such problems that my phone lines would have to be blown?

Asked by anartist (14808points) February 25th, 2012

I tried out electric sheep a few weeks ago and found them delightful and soothing, but wondered about any drains on computer resources or safety issues. Not long after that I began to have router outages. I discontinued use of sheep but the router outages continue. My s/o says I need to have the lines ‘blown.’ Is this so? Are the sheep the cause?

And what exactly does ‘blown’ mean anyway? A search on the web turned up this hilarious bit of info but not much else.

I find it unlikely that your router got fried by the sheep. More likely that your router’s just going bad. Extensive use of a thing will cause it to eventually wear out, but there are rules governing just how much output your hardware can output.

Not likely. High data transmission rates won’t “blow” a phone or cable line, or harm your router.

What might be happening is that your ISP has noticed a sudden and dramatic increase of bandwidth use 24/7 (which is usually a sign that your computer has a spam virus) and has throttled your account.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

(Apropos of nothing, I’m afraid. But when I read your Q, my mind immediately went to memories of Blade Runner, the movie which was based upon the story title above :)

And the sheep name were taken from that title. As they can create themselves based on an algorithm and access to some active sheep on line they ight be said to have AI.

I took a look at the link. Pretty impressive.

Philip Dick should rightfully be proud of what his creativity and titling have spawned.

And Blade Runner is one of the best Sci Fi films ever.
