Random Food Question: What's your favorite way to prepare oatmeal?

Asked by rockfan (14627points) May 23rd, 2013

I like steel cut oats (because of the chewy texture) with a dash of cinnamon, some ground flaxseed, raw honey, blueberries, raisins, pitted dates, and slices of a ripe banana. Topped off with Half & Half and non-fat Greek yogurt. Yum. Lol, what about you?

I eat steel-cut oats most mornings and add a mixture of ground flax seed, sesame seed and chia seeds, some walnut pieces, cinnamon, a T. of sunflower seeds and a splash of dark amber maple syrup.

I like the instant kind… raisins and spice. No milk , a little brown sugar.

I’m not a fan of oatmeal but I like to add it to my chocolate chip cookie mix (the brown sugar kind makes them taste delicious).

Maple syrup. The real stuff, none of that Log Cabin stuff.

With raisins in a cookie.

I put ½ cup of uncooked oatmeal into a one liter shaker. Then I add 1 cup of another whole grain cereal (whatever my wife has bough like Kashi, Weaties , Chreeio’s, Wheaties etc). Then I add 60 grams of whey protein. Then I add a few raisons and then fill it up with non-fat milk.

Then I shake up the mixture and place it in the refrigerator to sit over night.

I eat/slurp it down my hatch on my long commute to work each day. Good stuff!

^^^Does the oatmeal become digestible? Is it steel-cut or instant?

I like to cook the old fashioned type, whatever that is. I have it with skim milk and brown sugar ( nothing fancy).

Steel-cut, cooked with slivered almonds and black pepper; a little olive oil and parmesan stirred in at the last minute.
What can I say, I am convinced that breakfast should be savory.

I’m too impatient to cook from scratch so I usually make instant. Doused with honey and a little milk or cream, it tastes pretty much the same to me. I like extra stuff in dry cereal, but not in my oatmeal.

I occasionally buy a frozen steel-cut brand, but it’s almost too heavy for my taste.

Milk, apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, maybe a little honey. I make it in the nuke-ro-wave here at work, because I don’t have to pay for it. ^_^

Nothing fancy for me. A half-spoon of brown sugar and a smattering of raisins. Maybe a small dash of milk. Stir and eat.

@gailcalled I don’t know about the different ways oats are cut I just eat them. HA! But my wife told me that I’m eating “thick-cut” oats. I don’t have a problem digesting the raw oats. I never cook them anymore. Cooking is a waste of time. I just want to fill my belly and go.

You mean beyond adding hot water?
