Isn't a great facelift worth this little glitch?

Asked by Aster (20023points) July 12th, 2013

I see really pretty facelifts on older women; some on Facebook, some on tv. There is something scary or weird about a woman with a young looking, firm face who has super wrinkled hands with big, brown liver spots and sagging forearms. Why is that? Why is it spooky looking? Is it worth it to you or a turn off ? The arms and faces just don’t match. Is it better to have the face left alone to sag and have spots to match the hands? What do you think?

People should age gracefully and die with dignity instead of going out looking like Frankenstein’s monster.

I’ve never seen a facelift that I could describe as either “great” or “pretty”. They’re all recognizable as facelifts, and for me, they all immediately recall that scene from Brazil.

—Get the facelift
—Have the spots removed by laser treatment (I’ve done this, and it was amazingly painless, inexpensive, and effective)
—Do upper-body strength training for toned forearms
—Get a filler injected into the back of each hand, so that the wrinkles and veins disappear (local anesthesia)

Age gracefully? No way!

@glacial That’s because you can’t see a great facelift. The person looks refreshed and somehow younger, but the procedure isn’t obvious.

The surest ways to mess up a facial procedure:

—Involve the eyes. If someone does a little tightening on sagging cheeks or a loose jawline, the results can be fabulous. But, people look weird after they’ve had their eyes pulled and lifted.

—Be unrealistic about the outcome. After a good procedure, someone can look 10–15 years younger and very attractive. When a 65-year-old aims to look age 25, however, he/she ends up scary-creepy.

@SadieMartinPaul I like how you think!

I’ve discussed getting some work done with my fiancé. This is how it went.

Baby, I think I want to get some work done on my body. Just a few things.

Botox – no
Tummy tuck – no
Lipo – no
A boob job – no

Seriously, he’s no fun! lol
Maybe I should be happy that he loves how I look, but I know that’s there’s room for improvement.

@Katniss It’s lovely that your finance finds you beautiful just the way you are. That’s a very nice thing.

You mention a few major, invasive surgeries, but Botox is quick and easy. If you were to get some Botox injections, and then wait a few days for the effects, I wonder if your finance would notice the subtle changes? A good Botox outcome isn’t apparent, but it yields comments such as, “You really look great today,” and, “I’ve never seen you look so well-rested.”

I’m not really encouraging you to sneak away for a procedure and keep secrets from your finance. I wouldn’t do that. I’m just raising a what-if scenario and saying, “Hmm…”

Hey…the spell check changes “fiancé” to “finance.” Not fair!

He would totally notice. I can’t even trim an inch off of my hair without him noticing. lol
