Is a Cardinal a sign of good luck?

Asked by Chanses (4points) July 13th, 2013

A Cardinal was in the middle of the roadmI picked it up & put it in my car. The entire time he did not move, he was not scared he just sat in the passengers seat by my purse. Very silent. Never looked my way. When I go to my destination and went to pick him up, he flew to the back of my car and then out the window I had open. I looked every where for him, everywhere and could not find him. is there a superstition that goes along with this bird. When I was looking for it, it was as if he disappeared. And why was it sitting in the middle of the road if it could fly? What does that mean?

It could have been a fledgling that was just getting its sea legs, you should excuse the mixed metaphor.

The fact that he got the hell out of Dodge is a good sign for the bird’s survival. He will probably take shelter as soon as he can.

Cosmically, it means nothing.

My favorite bird.

Perhaps, it was hit by a car and was stunned. Then, after a bit, flew away.

Maybe bad luck, ergo the phrase cardinal sin.

Not if you’re an altar boy who’s trapped in his bedroom. ;-)

This question has been asked here before. With their bright red plumage, the birds seem like symbols in search of a superstition. What I love about cardinals is that they stay for winter. Nothing brightens a dreary winter day better than the sight of a cardinal.

And nothing cheers the heart so much as a male feeding his dowdy mate a sunflower seed in preparation for mating.

@ucme “Cardinal sin” is probably referring to this sort of cardinal.

I suspect the bird had been temporarily stunned by a car or something. Glad to hear it was able to fly away.

@downtide Of that I was acutely aware, just a bit of word play.

This has the potential to be a “fallacy of positive instances” situation. This is the tendency to remember uncommon events that seem to confirm our beliefs or superstitions but forget events that disconfirm our beliefs. It really is nothing more than a coincidence.
