From what I have read you don’t make enough to be effected.

I concur, the plan was to have a minimum wage covered at no additional charge. The amount was more than your wages.

@_Whitetigress, do you have a health plan at your place of employment? Do you participate? How much does it cost you?

It has been estimated that a basic “bronze” level health care plan is estimated to cost the Average American between $4,500 – $5,800 without cost assistance. Please be aware costs can vary greatly depending on a number of factors including location, health status and age. The bronze plan covers 60% of out of pocket health care costs and offers basic coverage. Plans range from the basic “Bronze” (60%) to “Silver” (70%) more expensive “Gold” (80%) and “Platinum” (90%) level plans. High-end plans carry a 40% excise tax which helps pay for the program.”

There is a chart based on income on the website to help you break it down a little more, but it’s impossible to paste it correctly from my iphone.

@_Whitetigress Do you get your insurance through your employer? If you do, only your employer knows how much they will charge the employee.

According to this piece, you (and I) are among the 40% of Americans who can’t figure out what the Affordable Care Act is all about.

My company only does management health benefits etc. Seeing as only management can get 40 hrs a week.

Sounds like somebody else will be paying your tab.

_Whitetigress's avatar

@josie Oh bullshit. I’ve been working since I was 16, now 25. I’ve been paying my taxes. Only now do I actually need to use the “healthcare system of America.” This is what’s wrong with America. Your mentality, and prejudice against people like me, “struggling” “paycheck to paycheck” to make ends meet, while doing school, partime work (because fulltime isn’t offered). Not everyone is raised with two parents don’t pretend to know everyones situation. Paying my tab, bullshit. I’ll be paying my fair share. Just like you will.

Healthcare shouldn’t be a “privilege”

Sorry if you meant no ill-will, and sorry if you did.

@josie I think ObamaCare is trying to correct that from happening as much as it does now. I don’t understand your answer.

cheebdragon's avatar

Technically it wouldn’t matter if you had been working since preschool, you cant pay towards a tax that didnt even exist yet. I don’t think Josie meant it in a judgmental or condescending way, I think it was more of a literal statement.

@cheebdragon I guess @_Whitetigress doesn’t want to be lumped in with people who don’t work since the ObamaCare arguments tend to turn into people who are right wing annoyed they will be paying for people who don’t work. I should say I don’t think of @josie as hard right, although he does tend to agree with them a lot of the time. I am just speaking in general terms really, not specifically about him. The right wing tends to lump all perceived social services together and anyone who supports social services as wanting allow people to have a free ride on the backs of those who work. Forget that even before Obama people who did not work received medicaid. @_Whitetigress is wondering about his paycheck being affected.
