How to come out as transgendered?

Asked by mjm8401 (173points) October 6th, 2013

I am a 27 year old male who is transgendered but I am not really out with it yet. On top of that I am pretty sure I also have aspergers but was never diagnosed. I am currently unemployed and am looking for work. I was telling my dad about the aspergers and how people give me a hard time at jobs and try to pick on me for being awkward. He told me I need to come out of my shell however he and everyone else is probably not going to like that. So, how do I go about handling a situation like this? Should I just be blunt and an asshole when people are being assholes to me? I have a feeling they are not going to understand and are going to try to act like I am soft even tho I am twice the man most of them are. Do I try to stay passive about it and just walk away and ignore them or do I fight back?

Well you can’t help it! My advice is that whenever they are rude to you, say “if you don’t like something about me, then don’t look at me, don’t mess with me!” & then ignore them(:

Always fight for your authentic self no matter what that is. Every human is special & should be treated as such.

All I can say is do your best, that’s all anyone can do. Don’t be so self conscious, most people aren’t going to care. If you make it into a big deal than it always will be. Just relax, you’ll be fine. Oh, and if you go out in drag, your shoes should match your purse.

May I suggest you search in your area for support groups? Find one for transgendered individuals and another for those with Asperger’s syndrome. You will find valuable support in them.
