What's your favourite colour?

Asked by Seek (34805points) October 28th, 2013

Yeah yeah, isn’t this the millionth time…

I sort of have an ulterior motive. But if I give it away my fun is ruined. So play along. Mmkay?

Me, I like earth tones – browns and greens, and the combination of turquoise and black.

Green—in all its various shades. My top five greens are mint, sage, celadon, emerald and olive. Have fun!

If I have to pick just one, purple.
If I can have more than one, purple, pink, and sparkle.

Seafoam green. :)

Blue – standard, boring blue.

Aqua blue. To go with the new color of my eyes.

What you said (browns and greens).

What’s with the British spelling of those words though?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Depends on my mood and what I want the color to do for me. If I’m mellow and looking for calmness I all combinations of blue and green. If I’m hopped up or looking for it to excite me then the hot colors, reds, hot pinks, royal purples.

I tend to favour British spelling. It’s how I learned to read, and most of my favourite authors use British English.

The only time I spell American style is when Autocorrect screws with me.

I love that deep, reddish brown of thai iced tea.

For our home, I like natural colours.

Navy blue.

Blue. It’s the colour of the sky and the sea and dreams.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Baby blue in general.

For home, I have neutral earth tones though.

I like lavender. I like darker purple. I like most shades of green.

Cerulean or Cornflower or Turquoise….actually, most shades of greens and blues and their infinite mixes!

Is anyone else having a Monty Python and the Holy Grail flashback? Blue, no yellow…

Jeruba's avatar

Depends. I love some colors in the spaces around me that I wouldn’t want to wear, and some in small doses that I wouldn’t use to paint a room. A gorgeous color for a scarf might be much too strong and overwhelming for a dress. What I wear day by day typically reflects my mood. I wouldn’t choose the same color for a balloon that I would choose for my car.

In general I favor the cool colors, from aqua through violet—the ones you might think of as “Monet” colors. But a dash of daffodil yellow or vibrant rust or burgundy red—wouldn’t want to be without them.

I love all color.

However, I could go the rest of my life without anything pink anywhere near me and never miss it.

I love colour. I love green clovers, blue rain, red flames, amber yellow, rich browns, pale greys, citrusy orange. Context is important. Some colours don’t look good on me as clothing, but are a very pleasing throw rug. Others look great as paint, but not so appetizing on my plate. Some are comfortable, tranquil, and others disquiet (which I don’t mind, sometimes.)

Today is grey, pale blue, off-white, with a splash of dark brown and green in the autumn rain. I love it. I would say, in general, that is my comfort colour palette.

What’s on second.

I have a think for the orange robes of shaolin monks. Anything that color though I wouldn’t wear it and I painted my walls a lighter shade. That color calls to me.

I love red, but like @Jeruba wrote, it depends on where the colour is. I do like red anywhere on my nails, in my home and also my clothes. I always feel vibrant and happy when I wear red and it certainly gets me noticed.

I love earthy colours for a home, I also like plain white. Colours I hate to wear are brown and navy blue. I am told I am a clear spring which means I should wear jewel tones. Colour can really be a vitamin to me.

Green, if I have to pick one. I also like dark purple and dark red when combined with orange.

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Seek's avatar

African or European? I need another shrubbery!

Juels's avatar

@Rarebear – What do you mean? An African or European swallow?

Rarebear's avatar

A swallow may fly south with the sun, and the house martin or plover may seek warmer climes in winter, and these are not strangers to our land.

And it’s truly frightening how much of that movie I have memorized

Seek's avatar

@Rarebear – we should host a quote -off. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!

Moss green, chocolate brown, taupe and cranberry. If you look in my closet, that’s what you’ll see most of.

Jeruba's avatar

Interesting how few of those who’ve responded thus far use their declared favorite colors in their avatars.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Jeruba You’re right. Interesting.

Almost said something about not having any particular attachment to “blue,” now I wish I had.

Okay, I changed my avatar to reflect my answer.

I like a deep red colour. It also is a colour that looks good on me. My sofa is a dark red and mustard/wheat yellow. My favourite duvet cover is a deep red. I like these colours together: http://www.pinterest.com/cindyjo/turqouis-and-red/

@cazzie Turquoise and red together….. Love it! And I love these shoes! I found them on your link SO CUTE!!!!!

Mine is really specific and not exactly a color. Late afternoon sunlight on leaves or grass makes this special, transparent brightness that’s somewhere on the greeny gold spectrum. This type of light also does special things to flowers, making the colors more saturated, so something like a mundane corporate flowerbed turns into a surprising little pop of beauty at the right time of day.

That’s also why I don’t like winter. When the days are longer and the plants are out, you get this special greeny-gold brightness every day. In winter, the light is all pale and washed out, and there’s less of it, so you don’t get this same ripe golden quality to the sunlight. And there are no leaves for it to shine on anyway; everything is all brown and grey. We hardly ever get a real snow here, so it’s just slushy and bland. Siiiiigh.

Bluefreedom's avatar

I’m pretty fond of blues and purples. Those have always been my favorite colors.

bob_'s avatar

Blue, but I’m colorblind, so it’s kind of an everything goes.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Or so they tell me
I don’t know—I’m colorblind

picante's avatar

Haleth, I love your description of the ripe, golden light. I experience that most days when the valley beneath my home comes alive as a specific arc of sunlight hits it. There is a magical transparency that hits millions of leaves. Even the feathers of the birds in flight are backlight with that golden aura. It is indeed a special few minutes.
