Is Windows 10 the very last platform?

Asked by talljasperman (21916points) September 22nd, 2015

Or are we being lied too? I heard on television that Win 10 won’t be upgraded any more? That it is perfect and long lasting.

Not sure exactly what you are talking about but anything with a CPU will need some kind of OS and most will also need a human-machine interface. The PC OS will live on also in some form.

Time will tell. Maybe one day one of them come up with a new OS, or someone manage to prove that there’s so many bugs in Windows 10?

What you probably heard was that this will be the last “windows release” Microsoft is toying with the idea of making the Windows OS a subscription model. This means you pay periodic fees to use the OS and they will issue regular updates and improvements. Not a model for me. I’ll go exclusively Linux at that point.

I highly recommend doubting absolutes. The words “always” and “never” are seldom valid, and Windows 10 isn’t the ultimate OS; it’s not a mystical form of perfection that won’t need upgrading.

It’s the very last platform for now!

It will be upgraded, and it has been. But the plan is sort of it to get upgrades and patches from Windows Update. So if things go according to plan there will never be a windows 11. Just a Windows 10 service-pack 1792.

This is going to bite them in the ass eventually. Hardware has to be depreciated.

@Yetanotheruser “It’s the very last platform for now”

“Now” meaning, for the next couple of days!
