Looking back, have we improved at all since the birth of Christ?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) December 23rd, 2015 from iPhone

What would he make of my elbowing past some old woman to snatch the last hoverboard? Is there a place in heaven for those who strive to stimulate the economy? After all, no one badmouths the wise men for “bearing gifts.”

Wow, what a bizarre question!

Here I thought you were going to ask something deeply philosophical about the sophistication of mankind’s understanding of the human condition…. and you come up with a question about whether it’s OK to trample people at Wal-Mart!!

So much for deep philosophy.

Quick answer: Christmas, as celebrated today, has about as much connection to Christ as fingernails do to snow shovels.

For technology advances mind blowing, for treating each other they he would want us to, not much if at all.

@elbanditoroso neglect my musings, and address the question. Then prepare to be flagged for anticipating anything “profound” from ME.

well, civilised countries have abolished the death penalty and torture, have universal healthcare, they take care of the poor and the retarded.
So I would say, Europe has, yes.

2000 years is a short time on the evolutionary clock, only 80 – 100 generations. Life span has increased due to improved nutrition, and medical knowledge. However natural biological immunity has likely decreased resulting in increases in: Allergies, diabetes, Crohn’s, etc.
Weapons technology has improved to such a level that it no longer takes a huge army to hold the world hostage A small, dedicated group with a moderate amount of finances can now scare the world into spending and wasting incredible resources.
It’s not all bad news. We now can get free tentacle porn on the internet.

Well, humans in general are trying to shift from a violent, mindless kind of existence, to a more gentle, thoughtful existence. I think we’re trying to anyway. But I don’t think that has anything to do with Christ. I’m sure there were civilizations who tried to live in peace before he ever came (if he did.) It’s just hard for us Great Apes to subdue our instincts. But it’s a testament to our humanity that we at least TRY.

some of you try.

True, but don’t get complacent. The Holocaust is in the recent past. I’ve met people who were in the camps.

The Srebrenica massacre was only twenty years ago.

@Seek and we now neglect to burn witches and lynch black folks.
